New Member and first time RVer!

Hey Folks!

Excited to be here....My wife and I have been talking about retiring and enjoying the RV lifestyle for about 15 years now. While I'm not retired yet an opportunity presented itself and we jumped.

Our plan was to buy our first RV in about 2 years but a friend of a friend was selling his 2017 FR Surveyor 201RBS. We weren't ready just yet and the trailer plan wasn't ideal but I made a silly offer and he accepted. A deal too good to pass up so we jumped on it. The owner took really good care of our unit with the exception of the outside that needed some polishing. A couple of weekends work and I have it shining like new again.

We enjoyed out first ever RV weekend in it a week ago and had an absolute blast. I was so pleased EVERYTHING worked.

It was a cold Florida weekend where temps on our second morning hit 32. The furnace worked, the hot water worked, the fridge worked...My wife and I were so pleased with our $10,000 investment and that included a WDH and all the accessories.

I must say, I've heard people bashing the RV industry for years and I understand much of it is well deserved but after spending our first weekend in our FR Surveyor I am happy with our unit for what it is. Our plan is to cut our teeth on this unit for a couple of years then upgrade to either a fifth wheel or Class A.

So glad our journey started sooner than expected.

Craig

Congratulations that is awesome! You stated, "I must say, I've heard people bashing the RV industry for years and I understand much of it is well deserved but after spending our first weekend in our FR Surveyor I am happy with our unit for what it is." ....

Well, just wait until you buy a brand new one and you have to fix everything the previous owner of your current trailer had to fix :-)

I've heard about fixing all the new RV bugs.....Ive also heard the pre-pandemic units were made a little better? Is there any truth to that or just a myth?

Welcome to the Forest River forums, the Forest River family AND the Surveyor family!
Like you, we, too, have a Surveyor: a 2016 247BHDS and love it!

You will find a lot of good information from reliable sources here.

Enjoy your new unit and we might just see you down the road!

Well, interesting because, I purchased a brand new 2019 Geo Pro 17' Rear Kitchen, which I then sold and purchased a 2021 Venture RV Sonic 231VRL (not a Forest River). So, I have actually purchased brand new both pre- and post- pandemic. I have had considerably more problems with the 2021 Venture RV sonic including having to take it back to the dealer to replace the entire slide motor/gears mechanism, all the "twist-on" plumbing connections were loose, ceiling fan trim screws missing, screens not clipped in securely, emergency window latch screw stripped.

The problems I had with the 2019 Geo Pro - the inside door panel had several cracks, probably because the door window screws were tightened too tight. The light on the front by the tongue jack switch went bad, and a center trim piece on the ceiling was coming down and needed glued back on.

So, comparing the 2019 to the 2021 - I had way more issues with the 2021 trailer, including 1 trip back to the dealer for major warranty repairs.

Over the years, RV quality has always been an Industry issue. But nowhere near as bad as during the Pandemic. I had a 2007 Rockwood Roo and now have a 2016 TracerAir. Both had some quality issues but they were all fixed within the warranty period.
But the recent ones I've seen have lots of quality issues.
So, IMHO, it's not a myth.
