New trailer in Nebraska

Greetings!

We just bought and picked up 2-26-2011 our new 2010 Salem LE 30
QBSS from Leach Campers in Lincoln Nebraska.

We will be towing it with out 1993 Ford E350 Super Club Wagon.

We have a Primus IQ brake control and a EAZ-Lift wd hitch.

Had a great experiance at the dealer. They were able to find financing with very doable payments for us. I had just installed the 7 pin trailer connector on the van, and when we hooked up, it didn't have right turn or brake on the trailer. They had be bring it into the shop, and they fixed a loose wire for free. Then they setup the hitch height for us, while we were doing a walk through of the trailer with the salesman.

All in all a very good experience. We plan to stay in Nebraska for the first few trips, but may find our way down to Lake of the OzArks soon or maybe Mt. Rushmore.

We're very happy so far!

Now with pictures!

Here's a picture I snapped of the tv backed up to the trailer. I had just unhooked from our first trip, when I remembered to take a pic.

Hello fellow Husker. Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new TT. We have bought a couple of trailers from Leach in C.B. The service there is great as well. Have fun with your new camper, maybe see you out in the campgrounds. We live in Omaha and camp at the SP's around here a lot.

Well, just posting kind of an update. We've been out 3 times so far, and all is pretty well. Broke the TV by hitting it with the bedroom door, but they are fixing it under warranty. Had them fix the microwave door too, apparently FR commonly installs the trim around it so close that it keeps the door from opening correctly. I installed 2 computer fans in the fridge, as mention in another thread, and I got some rubber mat to put under the noisy water pump.

Oh, and in another thread I mentioned that I damaged the rear corner when I swung it into a pole. The dealer (Leaches in Lincoln) took a look at it for free and said it looks like I got it sealed up pretty well. They even gave me a new side marker light lens for free. I really like those guys so far.

We have also determined that the 5.8 liter V-8 in the van is not strong enough to pull this trailer...So now we need a new tow vehicle...preferably a diesel, that can seat 7 or more.

Brian

Hopefully things will work out with the van.

your comment about the microwave door not opening -
I have noticed the last couple of times I used my microwave the door has a hard time opening - what did they do to fix this?

Well, you know the black metal ventilated trim ring that goes all the way around the microwave, and is held on with 4 screws? They moved it down a little bit, so the door clears it. I can take a picture if you need to me to.

I will take a look at mine and see if it is exactly that - I will let you know if I need the picture and thanks for the offer of the picture

That E350 Van struggles with the 30QBSS? Hmm. What is it rated at? I've been looking at that trailer, but only have a Ram 1500 QC Hemi with tow package. Maybe I should think about it more.. I like my truck.

Yes, it struggles quite a bit really. But, keep in mind, it only has a 351 or 5.7 liter, which is only rated at about 200hp, AND the van all by itself weighs 6600 pounds, with an 1/8 tank of gas. It's a big heavy van. It's only 400 pounds shy of weighting as much as the trailer. I believe the rated combined weight rating is 13,000 and I'm more then 500 pounds over that. Plus, the van was used as a old people transporter before I bought it, so I'm sure it has tons of engine idling on it, so it's probably not even making 200hp anymore. The suspension handles the weight fine, it's not even bad without the weight distributing hitch...and I'm sure your HEMI has quite a bit more power.

Thanks for the info! Just I've seen trucks like mine hauling a lot! I just saw another pulling a 5th wheel today.. The 5er had 3 slides! It was pretty big and that 1500 wasn't sagging bad at all. Pulled off from a red light faster than the other traffic around it.

Welcome and Congrats on the new trailer, from another Iowan. We too just bought a new TT(hybrid) and picked it up last weekend. We've have done a trip to South Dakota and stayed near Hill City(not far from Mt. Rushmore) at a really nice campround for a week in our last camper(Pop Up). Was the best vacation we taken to date, highly recommend it if you get a chance. Happy Camping !!!
