Newbie from Catlett Va.

Picked up my 2018 Cherokee 274RK last Tuesday. Interesting first trip already. Lots of sway on the trip down. Aired up the tires on my F-150 and took the weight I had on the back rack of the trailer and put it in the back of my truck and made for a much more comfortable ride back.

Got flagged down on 95 south bound to find I lost my bumper caps and my sewer hose was dragging. Good thing I did because the rear rack on the bumper apparently couldn’t handle the weight I put on it because it was bending and I imagine I wasn’t far from losing it. The rack might be able to handle 200 lbs but the brackets hold it to the bumper won’t.

Couldn’t get into the running water where I was at so we lived off my generator and gallons of water we keep filling up to flush the toilet and rinse hands. This weekend should be much better at BethPage campground with friends!

Welcome from SE Ohio.

First times you tow the white knuckles come standard.

You are likely maxed out on tow capacity. Sway is not ok. A fancy hitch is necessary. Like the tail is wagging the dog. You need to do something.

Those low capacity hitches on the back of a trailer are a bad idea. Bumpers are to store the hose. Not much else. I do have a background in structural engineering. Torque is your enemy.

It takes a while to get comfortable towing. It is not hard. Just takes time.

Towing 7-8 tons is no longer scary for us.
