Newbie to RVing

We just bought a 2020 Geo Pro 19fbs. We live in Nevada and we will be doing some boondocking. Course being new to all this, we'll first be going to RV parks and such til we get the hang of things.

I'll be asking many questions, maybe some dumb ones along the way but just point me in the right direction for answers.

Anyway, we're happy to be apart of this forum and look forward to what others have to say.

Welcome! Lots of exciting times and lots of mistakes. Just slow down, don't exceed your OWN personal limits, and learn from your mistakes as much as you can. It still beats hotels and fast food!

Welcome from New Orleans! We've had 2 summers of 3+ week road trips and currently our trailer lives at a piece of land on a little river about an hour from home, and we still feel like newbies. I think there's a natural arc to trailer life where you first learn how the basics work, then you add on level one amenities (better mattress, racks, how to stock the trailer for travel), then level two amenities (solar, generator, bigger battery), then you pull back to what you really need and don't need for the type of camping you do. I'm in between 1 & 2 and have a list a mile long of things I want to do.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I agree go slow, learn, correct, repair (hope not to many) and enjoy.

Our trailer is equipped with a 100w solar panel on the roof and a 1000w inverter. Biggest question I have right now is what size inverter generator should I buy (later on) to truly be "off grid" or boondock. It gets hot here in Nevada (example 107 today) so A/C is a must.

Solar works great. No power issues. 100% charge in 20-30 mins. from 70% left. Seems good to me.

Anyway, sorry if this is not the place to post....... still figuring out where and how to post stuff.

hang out in your driveway a couple of days, unplugged, with no access to any water, and certainly no sewer outlet, and see how it goes when you also can't go back into the house the whole time - throw out the awning and slide, let the battery give you 12v power, and see how you 'like' it - it will be the easiest of any 'boondocking' while in the driveway, even though viewing your neighborhood might not be the same as the great 'outdoors'...

you'll quickly start to realize 'what' you want to make sure to remember to 'take with you' when boondocking... generator, toilet paper, water, fuel, propane, and all the trapping of our great lives!

Welcome to the group. We have a Firman 3000W inverter generator. It has a 30A outlet that will run our AC unit. It is about 100 lbs and very quiet. Costco had a sale on Black Friday. I think we paid under $500 for it.

Go slow, buy things as you need them and ask lots of questions. Someday soon you can pay it forward by answering the next person's questions.

2X 2200 would be enough to run the whole trailer and when you don't need AC you can just take 1 gen and save weight. I find we rarely use 2 since we seek higher ground to cool off from Phoenix but it's nice to know I CAN run everything if I need to.

Take multiple short trips to nearby parks. Don't take it as a failure that you forgot or don't have something and have to take a trip to Walmart. The point is to figure out what you don't know because, right now, you don't know what you don't know.

Resist the urge to buy all the gadgets and "have to haves" that you hear about. You don't have to have them. There are many specialty camping/RV items that are useful and convenient. Some are essential but there are a lot more that you'll use rarely and can live without.

Some of the best advice I'd ever seen. Co-worker was going to go the full OFF THE GRID with his TT. He did something similar to your advice, but did it out in the wilderness first. It didn't go well and him and the wife are sticking to campgrounds from now on. As he said...."Off Grid is not for us."
