We have a Rockwoid trading to a Hemisphere. Suppose to pick up Wed but having second thoughts. It has a residential fridge that we didn’t realize it to be a problem. Anyone have problems with theirs? Just wondering how long the battery will work on the inverter. Guess we will find out.

You re going to need more than one battery, if you aren't going to have electric hookups. And you'll still need a way to recharge them.

Yes if you boondock you will need more batteries. Resi's are great for people that have hookups. Or geta good/decent solar setup. If you do solar you will still need batteries though. The power to run it has to come from somewhere.

Can anyone tell me how long a residential fridge will run on 2 batteries?

We can ballpark it but need a little more info. Are the batteries 6v or 12v, what group size are they?

When I bought my new trailer in July I was thinking of residential and this is what I found and was told:

inverter and 2 wet cell 12v group 24s will get you 4-5 hours
inverter and 2 AGM 12v group 31s will get you 8-9 hours
inverter and 2 6v batteries will get you 6-7 hours
inverter and 4 6v batteries will get you 11-13 hours

These are not exact and state of charge, state of health, efficiency of the inverter, parasitic draw, and other electric usage will make the times vary.

The other concern people do not think about is the time it takes to recharge batteries from usage, it takes 5 hours of the generator running to recharge 4 6v battery from a depleted state of running a fridge all night.

those times a probably run-time, the fridge will only run a portion of the time especially if you cool it while plugged in. I have never checked into a common fridge duty cycle but I would guess it is running under a third of the time

You would be much better off just using a cooler full of ice. It will last longer.

Thanks for the help. The dealership let us out of the deal. We are going to stick with our little Rockwood Mini-Lite for now. Small but just the 2 of us but the fridge will work for us.
Again thank you all for your help.

Meemeej, it would help if you explained what type of camping you do.

If you plan on always camping with hookups, a residential fridge is a great choice.
But if you will be dry camping or boondocking, you may want to stick with a RV electric/propane fridge.

Most times we do use hook up, but then there are times we are in the woods for a couple of days. And sometimes at rest stops. I think for now we will not trade. Again thanks for the advise.
