Open Road Around the Corner
Greetings everyone.
Some may find this crazy... we just ordered a new 2506S but decided to keep our 5th wheel that we've had for years. We love the quality of our Excel 5er but discovered, as we tested the retirement waters last spring in the southwest, 35' is a great way to enjoy RV living but kept us from getting to many of the places we wanted to explore. We recently sold the house near the lake along with everything we owned, except for things that we could use in the RV. My brother called me crazy but it's not his life, right? We have a few places through friends and family to park both RVs and we'll decide which trailer to use depending on where we're going and how long we'll be gone. Not completely crazy, eh? I wanted the 21DS but the DW wasn't going for that so we settled on the 2506S.
Our last TT was in the late 90's so I'm getting reacquainted with TTs and a bit wrapped around the axle on things like upgraded tires and a decent hitch that doesn't make enough noise to wake the dead. We've had the 5th wheel for years and the tires are large enough that we can go with commercial grade, making choices easy. I see the Goodyear Endurance in 215/75/14 will be our likely choice. As far as the hitch, I remember how loud our last WD hitch was and I'm thinking the Equal-i-zer 1200/12k with the friction pads to help with noise might work.
Regardless, I'm looking forward to gathering knowledge from this group on our new Rockwood.

Congrats and Welcome! Your not crazy at all. You'll find any number of Rvers who own two units-usually of different sizes or types. We own a 28' MH and a 22' cargo van for our RVing adventures

Welcome from just east of Toronto, Canada.
The “Sway Bracket Jacket” pads on the Equal-i-zer, combined with some lube on the bar sockets as specified by Equal-i-zer, will reduce the noise but not eliminate it. The noise just means its working as intended.

Maybe I'm oversensitive but, I hate sway control noise. I'm trying to justify the cost of the ProPride 3P.

Well, the ProPride shouldn’t be noisy but I can’t see spending that kind of money just to eliminate the noise. IMO, the ProPride (and Hensley) would only be justifiable if you tow a long TT (> 32’ long) in a very windy climate. A MiniLite isn’t anywhere near long enough to justify spending $3000 on a hitch.
Edit: Your 3500 is plenty of truck for the 2506S.

I'm hearing ya. We tow an enclosed car trailer that's a ton heavier with 1200 lbs on the ball that's the same length as the 2506 with no WD or sway control and it's solid as a rock. Even with 1200 lbs it's still high in the rear. We'll be local for a while when we take delivery so I may just road test it and decide then on what I want to do.

You might take a gander at the Andersen WDH since you need more sway control rather than weight distribution. Every review I've seen so far says that they are virtually silent. Just my $.02

We have a Hensley. It still makes noise. Not as loud as a regular WD hitch. I dont believe there is a truck trailer combo that is totally silent when turning.

That might be my answer.
Strange that hasn't come up in a days worth of web searches but reviews are encouraging.
