Picking up our Rockwood Signature 8315SS tomorrow!

Hi, I am new to this forum. We just purchased a 2008 Rockwood Signature Ultra Lite 8315SS. We pick it up tomorrow. And then off for a weeks vacation in Arkansas a day later.

We have been camping for 3 years and LOVE it. Both of our sons moved out of the house in the early spring, so we are now "empty nesters". One is in the Army Reserves at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO and our other son just moved into his first apartment, works and starts school in the fall.

We try to camp twice a month and take a 2 week winter trip to Florida every year. Our trailer probably only sits in Jan and Feb, come March we back out camping. Cold or heat doesn't stop us.

Well now, I can't quite imagine camping without kids, but I try, lord knows I try!!! I hope all goes well with the new rig and remember, the stabilizers will keep the 'rocking' to a minimum. wink wink

Thanks everyone. We had an early father's day party tonight and still haven't even peeled the stickers off the new trailer. We were worried about our TV vs TT weight. I posted on open roads and the weight police jumped me.

I ran to my service guy at chevy this morning and he said we will be fine. Keep weights over the wheels, stay between 55 - 65. Hills will be a little more difficult, but the burb can tow it.

I always hate when this happens. Buy a new trailer, dealer says no problem these are made for 1/2 tons. Post your new set up on forums and everyone makes me think we are going to die.

We will take it nice and slow and see how our TV does. We have an 05 suburban 1500 5.3 with 3:42 gears, tow package, transmission cooler, sway control and a weight distribution hitch.

Well, according to Trailer life http://www.trailerlife.com/downloads...ngs_p12_15.pdf You're inside the truck's tow capacity. Not by much & I probably would run with empty tanks as a rule, but with the right hitch set-up and good caution, you should have no trouble.

We just returned from our maiden voyage with the 8315SS. Everything went very well, no problems with the trailer, everything worked just as it should. Our burb towed great, no problems. We were so worried about the weight of the new trailer, and my husband was surprised at how well she did. We had 40 or so miles of 2 lane roads that were hilly and full of curves, the burb never pushed over 3,000 rpm. She took em like a champ. Our chevy mechanic said we have the right hitch and weight distribution set-up, along with the sway control. He told us your suburban will do just fine and he was right. We didn't break any speed records, which we wouldn't do with any trailer we were pulling. We kept it at about 60-65 mph.

We love our new rockwood....."IT ROCKS"!

Good to hear you had a great 1st outing!!

I also keep the speed between 60 and 65. No speed records but it sure helps with the gogo juice. I've increased my mileage by almost 2Mpg by slowing down from 70-75. That 2Mpg equates to an extra 76 miles to the tank and that could make the difference between getting to the next fuel stop or not.

Remember NO Cruse Control while towing.
