Planning First RPod trip!

HI, we just joined the FR Forums and are planning a road trip from Vermont to Santa Fe, NM, in December. I'm wondering if anyone can tell us about the availability of campgrounds right now in the midst of the pandemic. Do you think we have to plan every night before we begin? We're going to spend about 10 days for the journey.
Thanks!

Congratulations and Welcome from New Jersey, Definitely plan / call ahead especially with a lot of state's having growing numbers of cases.

whenever we do a long trip like that, yes - we plan how far we go each day and have reservations at each stop (but we are not set up to stop overnight at a walmart or cracker barrel parking lot). if you can do a parking lot overnight, you may be able to do a bit more freewheeling. we plan for 300-350 miles per day.

Thanks, Galsofescape, That makes the most sense even though we're more apt to change direction every once in a while. But with the pandemic, I think we'll really plan the itinerary and stick to it. We plan to stay at Harvest Host farms/wineries if we can along the way.
