Actually, a 50a R/V shore connection is 240v across the 2 legs. It's wired no different than a 4 pole 240v connection to a range, welder, etc.
It is the power distribution box inside the R/V that keeps the legs separate and keeps anything from being connected at 240v.
It is the 120v 30a 3 pole R/V shore connection that electricians often get confused on and mistakenly wire it at 240v.
But alas... we never heard back from the OP as to what exactly wasn't wired correctly or what was done to rectify it.
