Took the plunge!

We're not new to camping, but we ARE new to towing something with us to sleep in

We tented for years, and we live in one of the best camping areas in the country imho (Southern New Hampshire). Last year I found a really old bunkhouse for short money on Facebook Marketplace. After using it several times over the summer, we decided it was a great proof of concept for us (myself, my wife, two young girls, and a dog). So, just traded it in for more than I paid for it on a Flagstaff M-23lb that I'll pick up Friday!

I'm sure I'll have lots of questions...this forum has already answered several of them!

One of the first is on cold-weather camping. I'm planning to do some hunting in northeast PA dec 1-4 on a pad with electric and sewer. Trying to decide how to use the camper then. Do I just keep it winterized and use nature when it calls? Or will my camper be ok to use some of the water if it occasionally drops below freezing at night?

Welcome from Central Maine.... I'd have to contest your best place in the country for camping

In my opinion.... Have the dealer winterize for you before you take delivery. That way, should something happen over the winter to the water lines giving you trouble in the spring- its on them.

If you must use the water while you are out, you should be fine since you will have the camper heated inside. But it will also depend on whether or not the holding tanks are insulated or are exposed.

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum from MN.
We've camped in Oct in our TT a couple times with temps dipping down to freezing. The safest bet is to leave the TT winterized, and dump RV antifreeze (you might mix with water to stretch it out depending on expected temps) down the toilet to flush. For dishes and drinking water- we used a 6 gallon water jug, 2 plastic tubs to do dishes; propane or electric heat. We did dump dish water down sink with antifreeze. I went through a 20# tank of propane in 4 days 10 days ago on the North Shore of MN with overnight lows at freezing and daytime temps in upper 30's to upper 40's (thermostat at 67).
Good luck and have fun.

Thanks all! We'll go ahead and agree that anywhere in New England is pretty special

I appreciate the advice on the cold weather adjustments. As new as we are to having a camper, the cold weather part is definitely a new thing. Would hate to freeze pipes on its inaugural run!

Also you may want to consider getting a dehumidifier. In my cold weather camping experience, it seems that my camper gets dangerously (to the camper) humid in the when it's cold outside.

Would I just do a standard household dehumidifier? The one I have is pretty big.

Hello from Wisconsin.
We're hoping to make it over to New England the next summer or two.

I bought a 30 pint dehumidifier just for the trailer. It is great, and without it you will wake up in a condensation chamber this time of year.

Thanks! I think that's what we have in the basement. I'll plan to bring it.
