5 Inch Fence Post Sewer Hose Storage Question

Found an area I can mount an 8 foot length of 5 inch vinyl fence post under our Lexi for the sewer hose.
Question to those of you that have used this particular mod...how did you mod the end cap to "flip up" and how did you secure the cap when closed?
I plan to have both ends being able to flip up so I can access the hose from either end. The 2 hoses I carry, the longer and an extension measure 90 inches long when collapased, so I need the 8 foot length.
Also, what did you find to be the best "cap end" to use for the "door"?
Thanks, Grumpy

I used a elastic lanyard from sun glasses. Works great. The cap just hangs there when not on the post..

I threaded a baby bungie cord through mine. Since I happened to be standing by the trailer when I read your questions, I made a couple of pics. Click image for larger version

Thanks Dan, good, simple idea. I've got a dozen of those mini bungee's lying around.
Thanks.

I used small hinges. Though now at 4-5 years old, 2 of them have cracked from the plastic being brittle.

Mine is attached to the gutter that slides in and out. When it's all the way in I just drop a pin through a hole in the top of the cap and thru the post cover.

I put the end cap on and drilled a hole in the top, and one in the bottom and used a large gutter nail dropped in from the top as a pin.

I drilled holes through sides of cap and fence post to align with each other. I secured with a 6 inch galvanized bolt and nut.

I used bungee cord also as Mr. Dan. I also put holes in the post and covered them with a soffit vent to keep the critters out and allow the slinky stench to air out. Happy RVing!

I used short springs at the bottom of the post. Works well...just pop out the top portion and it falls open. Disregard the bungee cord around the post...it was put there to hold the post in position while I set the permanent bolts and I just never bothered to take it out.

When open, looks like this.

I used a brass hinge on the bottom and a snap latch on top so far no problems.

I did mine the same as emm-dee, however I put the cotter pin mounting location up above the rain gutter's edge on the tube, then in the middle of the cap edge. I can then pull the cap off and set it above or below the tube since the end of my tube has nothing above it. If you use this method, I have found if you mount it in the middle, sometimes the bent part of the cotter pin will interfere with pulling the rain gutter out. It's better to have it above or below the edge of the gutter line.

I also carry a 10' gutter (which I cut at 4') in the fence post. Got it and the cap latches at Lowes.
If you can find 6" pvc post I recommend that you use 6".

I used eye hooks and bungee cords. You don't need to be accurate, as you do with hinges and closure hooks.

I mounted mine to the frame using stainless steel nuts and bolts and fender washers. No holes in the frame; I captured the frame with the fender washers. Moved it directly from my Roo to my Mini Lite. The pic below is after I moved it to the Mini Lite and painted it black. See the attached drawing.
