The NEC specifies exactly where a detachable power inlet for shore power cord (or non-detachable cord entry) is to be located on an RV and where a pedestal is to be located on an RV site, both at the left/rear. NFPA 1192 also specifies where a pedestal is to be located on a site.
Problem I've found is that there aren't many newer CGs out there and many older ones pre-date the code requirements for pedestal locations. Pedestals can sometimes be towards the front of a site and sometimes there is one pedestal sharing two sites or even four sites. It's a good idea to have a shore power cord extension cord - we use ours a few times a year. A few times I found ourselves 2 or 3 feet short to the pedestal and couldn't move closer to it. Annoying!
