A Muffler for the RV Clock

You don't notice it until you are out in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, trying to enjoy the thundering silence of God's creation (the kind of nighttime experience we were designed to have) and then you notice it,

TICK, TICK, TICK...

The clock that came with your RV is amazingly loud!

So I made a muffler for mine.

Using a piece of open cell foam about 1 inch thick, I cut it so it would fit around the little quartz clockwork and not be visible by protruding beyond the oval shape of the clock face.

I found the clock wouldn't fit back into it's wall bracket with the foam in place, so I cut a slit from the outside edge to the middle of my foam, then hung the clock as normal, then packed my foam in around the clock movement.

Through my unscientific measurement (I listened to it) it seems to be a bit quieter now. (For no cost and 5 minutes of my time)

I have a friend who has had a heart valve replaced with one of those titanium artificial valves, and he says it sounds like a Timex watch.

Am sure for what that would cost you would expect it to sound like a Rolex.
All kidding aside I do notice the clock ticking when the crickets are not making their usually sounds

I think if you remove that round cylindrical thingie that says
enerjizer on it, it will get much quieter! Hah!!
That's the reason we have a digital clock in ours.
Those electrons are much quieter.

Replace mine with a digital clock that has indoor and outdoor temp, alarm, plus the moon phase for what that's worth. Like to know the outdoor temp before venturing out, especially since we take our motorcycles and plan on riding. Let's know how to dress.

I had the same problem. So I took the battery out. Now it makes no sound at all!!

When I am out camping I really don't want to know the time anyway!

All I want to know is: How much longer til the sun comes up or goes down. Unless I'm doing ham radio stuff, then I want to know the time to the minute, and in UTC/GMT/Z at that!

Oh, and I'd like to know when to take the cornbread out of the oven.
