Accumulator tank

Has anyone ever installed an accumulator tank to reduce the cycling of the pump? Seen some videos online but looking for general “would you do it again” thoughts.

Do a search for Accumulator and you'll see some threads like this one ==> http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...nk-147090.html. You'll at least know who to ask "would you do that again?".

That was one of the best mods I did to my rig I installed a 2 gal pressure tank where the water filter was and moved the filter outside.

Hi,

I installed a small one in each of my fivers over the years. I no longer recall the volume, but I'd guess they have been about a half gallon -- a nice size that has fit right next to the pump in every rig.

Very definitely smoooths out pump operation; the fact this is my fourth such installation suggests my satisfaction with the results.

FWIW.

I installed a 2 gallon and love it. No more cycling of pump and I turn the pump of at night and have enough water for the toilet until morning.

This is new to me and I'm very interested. Any tips on how easy or hard this is to do and cost? I usually camp without water and only have my fresh tank. I don't like to carry water and add it. Any thing to add water capacity and even out the water pressure with the pump would be great.

It looked pretty simple to do after watching a bunch of videos online. And as others said it did even out water pressure. My interest was more to learn if you’d do it again. Your going to have less than 100 into it and time, so nothing major. But you now have done a mod to a system that could cause the most damage if it fails. Still not sure if the benefits are all that good. I think I thought it would be much like my tank for my well at home but realize it is really small and only helps for a flush or two. Maybe I’ll just tell the DW and DKs if it’s yellow let it mellow.

I would do this mod again on any camper I own in the future.

DEFINITELY get the larger (2 gallon or more) tank (the one quart size is just not worth it. That way you will get several middle of the night flushes without that noisy pump cranking up at Oh Dark 30 ...

Try to find a location where you can mount the tank with the inlet at the bottom. I found the horizontal mount not the best idea because water can remain inside the tank over the winter and when you isolate the tank to prevent "pink" from entering it, the frozen water can expand and damage the sharkbite fittings or the shutoff valve.

If I replumb my install, I will put a drain valve between the shutoff valve and the tank to give any residual water a place to go.

Not sure what damage it could do unless your installation wasn't correct.

Because of the relatively small overall size of the the plumbing system in a R/V, accumulator tanks are one of the better mods to make to that system.

The Bladder inside the Accum.Tank will Push the Water Out, any water left inside will have Plenty of room to Exspand, without Damage to tank! A properly Installed Tank will have a Shutoff valve that must be Closed After allowing evacuation of inside contents, preventing Pink Stuff from entering! Youroo!!

I wonder if I could remove my filter housing and put one there. It's right next to the pump.

Sure. Many do and it's the perfect spot.
