Adding drawers

Hey all I wanted to see what you think of this. Above the heater there is a gap with nothing. They had one of those cheap panels blocking it. I removed the panel and could easily build a small set of drawers here for food utensils. Do you see any issue here? It is above the heater and I don’t really see this being an issue as long as I give about 1.5” clearance for airflow. I tested the heater just today as it’s starting
to get colder and it got a little warm but nothing Hotter than the floor next to the vent.

Anyone do this?

I don't think there's anything wrong with making that space a drawer. I opened several empty spaces and put cabinet doors and drawers in.

I wouldn't think that it would be a problem either. You may want to add a sheet of foam insulation between the heater and the bottom of the drawers. I did that between our drawer that is above our water heater and now the food we put in that drawer doesn't get hot anymore. Good luck.

Cool. Look forward to your design. I'm looking at doing similar.

Thanks much. I’ll probably get to it as a winter project.
