Basement storage rack on rails
Being short, fat, old and lazy, I got tired of having to crawl halfway into the basement to get/stow lawn chairs, etc. also being cheap, I decided to make a moveable rack suspended to the alum structure overhead with garage door rails & rollers to move the stuff to the door.
Cost was FREE as the rails and rollers came from an overhead door installers scrap yard and the tubing/angles came from our old racecar trailer. Quite satisfied with the results. Also made a rack with 4" pvc to stow the awning sunshades, etc.

Very, very nice! Great idea! So, it takes up half the bay, and travels the whole width? Great idea !

The rack takes up about 1/3 of the bay empty, but over half when loaded with the chairs. Leaves enough room to stow the outside tv and a fan which are unloaded first and also keep the rack from moving. Other side of rack has a box for the two 30a extension cords, satellite dish and a Little Red Fire Pit.

Great job OC! Nice, neat and convenient...that's what mod's are all about.
My previous TV was an Avalanche. Getting to the front of the bed to load or unload with the bed covers inplace or not was not an easy task. Also being frugal myself, I made a "bed slide" also using garage door rails and wheels. This was a few years back. When I traded the Avalanche for my 2500HD we installed the old bed slide in my son-in-law's Dodge short bed and is still in use today. Enjoying the use of a bed slide I bit the bullet and bought a ready made one for my 8' 2500.

Did the same when we had the 08Flagstaff 831RLSS. Made a box of the bed of the truck for chairs, etc. Oldest son now uses it in the bed of his Dodge for his bathtub/bathtub surround/sink refinishing equipment & supplies. Keeps everything covered and yet accessible. We also put casters upside down on the tailgate so the drawer can be pulled out and get to everything in the back of the drawer. It is 6' front to back and 4' side to side and 16" tall. Made a pull out board that stows under the box that he pulls out to mix the epoxy paint, etc.

In the beginning you mentioned that you might be lazy, I would say anyone who makes a system like that is not lazy. Great job and system.

Brilliant! I was cogitating about how to make a slide for our storage also. i was kind of stuck on floor rails, never thinking of overhead rails. Now, I can move forward with you idea and get the results I want. I like to improve my RVs.

Does the rack slide out past the bay door or is it mounted tight to the ceiling of the compartment? If it is ok, I would like to steal you concept.

The rack stops at the door, but it sure makes it easier to load things on it. The driver side I extended (cantilevered) out to stop the lawn chairs from sliding out the back. I plan on hanging some things on it if necessary.
