That's the best way to go for 4 bikes. I've only seen that the ladder style holds 2 bikes.

Would be interested to know which one you pick
Please note: These racks are for heavy duty frame mounted receivers and NOT RV bumper mounts. There is also a good case to be made that they are not made to be used on light or ultra-light RV frame mounted receivers either.

Not sure what kind of trailer you have but if you have a dinette that lays flat you can mount them on your benches.

I just had a ladder installed by the dealer on my Puma and am looking at carrying bikes, all I can find are racks for 2 bikes. This thread is very informative. It sounds like the ladder can handle 2 bikes but not 4 due to the weight moving around, am I correct?

We carry our bikes on the inside of the RV. Wouldn't chance anything else on the paper thin bumper and wonder about the spare tire hanging off that bumper.

Herk, any knowledge about the V rack you posted. I have 11/2" of space on my equalizer hitch. Thinking about it.... My son's bike is muddy all the time, don't want in inside the trailer.

None, but if I remember right there was not much room behind the Equalizer hitch head and the truck's rear bumper.

If love to add one to mine. Had one on there until it cracked the bumper weld. Seems like the best place to put them for space. Just don't want to have this happen to meClick image for larger version

I have decided that we will put the bikes inside the camper for our next trip, I don't want to risk damaging the camper, truck, bikes or anyone else.

Bike rack for rockwood

On Friday before leaving the rally, A tech gave me a Forest River, Rockwood/Flagstaff package with pamphlets and comment sheets to fill out. The tech stated the new bike rack by "Atwood" would work on the
Rockwood/Flagstaff units with a rear mounted ladder.

Here is my bike rack set up. I purchased an extended reach hitch shank to accommodate the brackets that I made up. http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ack-69126.html -pictures. The bike rack is a TRAVELER XC2 - Swagman . I use 2 ratchet straps,1 from each rear tire hoop to the rear bumper to eliminate the side to side movement of the rack. I also added set bolts to keep the homemade rack receiver tight, as seen in the pictures.

Yeah that looks great! But I have a new Equalizer hitch, and a Roo with a front tent bed. There is no good place to put bikes for me. I ordered a hitch rack that takes 11/2" of space on the hitch. I have an Explorer SUV, so I think that is why I have any space at all. I will try it on when it comes and see if it works and let you know.
I always thought the Arvika rack was a choice on my Hybrid, but I can't open the front bunk at all. The bunk when it is opened is only about an inch or so from the propane tanks. So even if I shortened the height of a rack, (Support Rack or Arvika Rack!) there is just no room over the Propane tanks.

Summer2go, I'd love to know if that setup works. Equalizer hitch here as well. Looking for an affordable option. Might just have to put in the camper but we are hauling from CT to Disney next summer and will be taking our whole house with us lol.

We put all four bikes in the camper this summer, and with the 2 biggest bikes, I know I will eventually scratch the interior up. The clamp on bike rack works, but I haven't been able to hitch and test it. I am afraid it may hit the propane tanks when turning. I'll be happy if I can put any of the big bikes on the rack. I will keep the rack anyway, it works as a regular car rack for three bikes. I have hope that it will carry one, maybe 2 smaller bikes with the camper. I also got a bike stand for the inside of the camper to try. I will use it on the floor, but I wonder if I can rig it on top of the dinette.

My rear bumper has spare tire on left and grill with swing arm in middle...may make hitch rack interesting to mount/fit in.
This is what I'm building for ours. A bolt in the receiver tightens to take any slop out of the hitch to receiver.

Happy Camping!

Carried my 4 bikes inside this past weekend, kept them dry. We used old sheets on the beds and couches to protect the fabric and were very careful taking them in and out.

I was standing them up in the very little floor space we have. I strapped them through the lower cabinet doors, and then together, so they could not move.
