Child proofing ideas? Oven??

Anyone have any suggestions on a way to lock the oven in the camper from my 2 year old? His favorite thing right now is to constantly open and then slam it shut....over and over and over...you get the idea.

I'm also interested in any other child proofing ideas/mods

Michael4017, Good luck and enjoy your time with the kids. I once, in frustration asked my best buddy, with two older and well behaved children, "How do I keep them from breaking things?".

His simple reply was "You will never own anything nice again!".

I know this is not helping but, Good luck.

A quick Google search turned this up.
Cherokee 274DBH - Google Search

As far as any additional ideas you might try the child proof locks ad at Home Depot or Lowe's for your cabinets.

I'm curious if any of these work with rv ovens. The reviews on the ones pictures are mixed

Besides the "no" and time-out chair. I found that parents of 2-year-old's survive best by giving options - either of which is acceptable. Obviously the "NO".. followed by 2 (not 3.. 3 is just too many!) wonderfully acceptable choices. Do you want to play with "a" or "b". Or as I did with my kids, it wasn't "Time to put on your pj's for bed" which could be met with resistance.... It was, "Do you want to wear your red or blue pajamas?" It's all about getting what you want them to do, but still letting them think they've made a choice. Good luck. I've always thought that the 4's were twice as hard as the 2's.

Our 1st & only grandson is 1 1/2 years old & it should be interesting when he comes camping with us.

Welllll....you asked!

Son 24, Daughter 20, neither on death row (now, had I carried through with a couple of threats over the years, I would be )

X2 with the NO and TimeOut - it really does work

Before I added child-proofing to the oven, I'd run it a bit and make sure I knew what was hot and what wasn't.

I have a childproof latch on our outdoor fridge (for travel, not for childproofing- once they're big enough to reach, they're not going to be a problem!). It goes around the corner and does a good job of keeping the door shut. It should work, but I'd really want to know heat-wise what's happening and where with an oven.

For us, the door wasn't so much an issue as was the fascination with the knobs. We now just pull the knobs and throw them back in the corner of the top.

It was inevitable. The nice thing for others to do would be to make their point and move on (which, coincidentally is in the Community Rules- make your point and let it go). But, you'll see the same commenters jumping in repeatedly. They're like a dog with a bone.

Behavior modifcation. Get him interested in something more fun than a swat on the butt for playing with oven door. The parent is the leader, not the child. (Yes, I have 5 grown children, a lawyer, a nurse/ office manager, a very success real estate professional, and two in college.)

Yea BamaBob, but you would be out by now. My two boys are 37 & 36. I am starting to feel old.

But, as you well know, LIFE seldom offers any choice but NO. We taught both our boys that No meant No. Once that short lesson was learned, they were no trouble until the teens which brings on a whole other batch of situations. Glad we are not raising kids now days. Neither of them are of the "I deserve it generation". Both turned out just great.
