Create more storage using underbelly of trailer

I am thinking of creating more storage utilizing the space just under side of trailer. Mine measures 8" high x 14" deep x 36" wide and there are 5 spaces available for this project. The plan is only for light weight storage for a minimal cost. Has anyone tackled similar project yet?

I saw someone build boxes like you drew. Saw somewhere on this site. No idea beyond that...

I installed these and they work fantastic. Lots of extra room in our basement and front storage because of them.

I bought one from Amazon and installed it last spring, but after doing some checking this morning, found it below for about $250 less than what I paid for mine.

There are two versions sold by LCI. First one has two long slide out storage bins. Second one they make has two smaller storage bins about half the size of mine and includes a spare tire mounting bracket in the middle.

Lemme know if there's any questions.

It's very nice, but too much $ for me right now. Between the upgrade expenses on the tt, tv and a boat = money pits. Hahaha.
So for now a DIY project is my quest. Ty

X2.

Feels like a variation on, say, northern tools model # 36212789.

I want a large flat tray that pivots down. Then put our zero gravity chairs and ladder ball and dog fence in it.

I have done this

I mounted my Clear Source Ultra under my floorboard between the frame and the skirting and so far, I think it's going to be a success. Profile looks very similar to your drawing and doesn't hang as low as my steps and I've never hit them.

I saw a video where someone put their sewer hose storage in a similar location as well and cut a hole in the skirt in which to access the storage tube.

I may even add heat tape along the water lines in to and out of the Clear Source so I can keep some heat there during winter.

That looks pretty nice. Maybe something similar could be found on Craigslist or FB Marketplace, if you're on a budget...which I usually am

My two cents...perhaps all it's worth.

Any UNDER FRAME storage should be mounted as closely as reasonably possible to the axles. In so doing, the running gear will keep this low-slung device as high as possible off the ground.

The farther from the axles, the less ground clearance you'll have going through the whoop-de-doos...anything ranging from a driveway upslope to a significant "breakover" crown in the road. These kinds of obstacles are common on poorly maintained roads going into boondocking sites.

Imagine what happens when your tow vehicle hits a sharp incline at a somewhat steep angle. The hitch ball and trailer coupler plunge earthward. Likewise, as the TV makes progress up the incline, the tail of the trailer plunges earthwards...to the point that the built in skid bars on the frame may ground out. Meanwhile, anything very close to the axles maintains most of its ground clearance.

The stairs on my old PUP were quite far forward from the axle, and I grounded them over and over again...to the point that I carried a 6 pound sledge to beat them back into good enough shape so they could be used. I eventually lifted the rig almost 4"...which, in turn, led to a 4" jump in the hitch ball height. The pix show the battered stairs before the lift, and the third pic shows where, on my paved driveway, the stairs carved out a gouge in the pavement...at the breakover point. Those stairs went though hell, and once I raise the rig, I took them apart, beat all the parts straight on an anvil, and reassembled them using stainless bolts in place of rivets and screws. If your "drawer" were to hit like my stairs did, it would be useless...and never slide properly again.

If you'e tucking something up under the foor, between the frame rail and the outer wall of the camper (as the OP indicated), this shouldn't be a problem. But that hang-down drawer will be pulverized quickly if you don't mount it as closely as possible to the trailer axles.

Bookmarked these a while back but never decided to take the plunge....not bad for $65 each...might be what you're looking for. Looks like the installation kit is separate. If you're handy and creative, you may not need it.

Thanks for the suggestion on words to query. Yep, found some that might work for $109-129. It will be too tall but will line up with bottom of scissor jack.or Hoping to see my neighbor this weekend to see if he could customize a wooden box for me....

Good? or Bad?

Half the post I see are asking for ideas to cram more and more into every nook and cranny.
Next is the post crying about being over weight and destroying tires and axles. (I'm guilty)
Last trip out I threw out most all of what had accumulated over the past 4 years.
Saw things I haven't seen in 4 years.
Now go and have fun!!

That is a great idea, but you got to watch your weight and make sure you do not put to much weight. Reason your cargo weight is xxx amount. Do over that limit you will have issues when towing. Like sway issues. Not safe at all. Please be careful....

Under belly storage

Great topic ant thought about this long ago. I got 110mm ( if I remember) ammo cans. There the perfect hight and depth and 32" long. I just took off the top, cut to size then riveted the top back on. Then cut a oval door to the side faceing out and added a door with a piano hinge. Last sprayed with plastic coat or rino liner just to keep the twang noise out. All in all about 30 to 50 dollars each depending on yor door...I used chrome dimond plate. Bolt right to frame. Last weight is not a factor as the boxes are about 3lbs each when done and I use them to hold the electrical. Sewer fittings. And hoses. All in all it frees up my one storage comartment.
Good luck all.
