Dash Cam Recommendations ?
I'm considering adding a dash cam for accountability and safety to my daily driver currently it's a RAM 2500 does anyone recommend a certain make and model ? Price ? Pro's and Con's ? Can they easily transferred from one vehicle to another ? Any input would be appreciated

I am a member of Turbo Diesel Register. com, several of the members use dash cams in their daily driving. Here is a link to one members post: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/...10#post2515810.
There are several post and you can just do a search in TDR for their post about dash cams reviews.

I suggest you visit these links. They are both filled with excellent information about current dash cam choices.

Check out the Garmin NuviCam. It is a 6" GPS with Dashcam. We've had ours for over a year and it is great. The video quality is very good. It also has voice command for the GPS. The mounting base mounts on the windshield, which may be an issue in some states due to windshield visibility laws.

Garmin is currently updating their dash cam offerings. The Garmin Dash Cam 35 is being sold under $100 at several on line stores. I bought one for the motor home and one for my Mustang. So far I'm very happy with them...

One thing to consider is the size of the memory card used by the camera. The larger the card will give you more recording time.
I have a cam for work with a maximum card size of 32GB. It will record a 10 hour day only, then it will record over.
The cam in my personal truck https://www.blackvue.com/dr650s-2ch/ records many days on a 128GB card. I love this unit.

I have a Garmin 35 and it's great. I had a cheaper one (z-edge) and it sucked.

The video I posted in the “What did you do to your Tow Vehicle” thread was done on a Wheel Witness. A good camera that I’m putting in my wife’s EOS. I bought a Thinkware F800 to replace it in my F150 because I wanted the dual channel capability for the rear window and all the other features.
To save searching, here’s a link to the Wheel Witness video:
Regardless of which one you get, my advice is GET ONE, and run it all the time. Hope y’all don’t ever need it.

Ive been looking for one as well for my personal vehicle. We have cameras in our work vehicles that record front and back and they are great when you need them. There is no disputing who is right or wrong or who had the "right of way".
Id like to find one that records front and rear with decent quality day and night. The ones on our work trucks aren't very clear and are very hard to make out a license plate if needed. Id also like one that's small and doesn't take up much windshield room. So many to pick from.

Agreed as to the variety out there. You do get what you pay for. I did a lot of research and decided on the Thinkware F800. I got it at BestBuy, used gift cards I bought at Kroger for the double fuel points (paid for with my cashback credit card), and bought it online via the DubLi website to get even more cashback. Ka-Ching!

I've been kicking it around as well. Just yesterday, if I'd have had one running, I'm absolutely positive that some idiot would have gone to jail once the police saw how this guy was driving (I'm a little aggressive at times, so when I say someone is being reckless there's a good possibility they're going to get someone killed).

I am considering using the GoPro. What time do you set the loop for? Is the short battery charge a problem. I seem to run out pretty quickly.
Thanks.

I would agree that you do get what you pay for but sometimes you may get suprised. I just mounted a cheap one from Amazon for $30-40 on special to the mirror. You add the 32gb card and wire it up. It has forward and reverse cameras. I ran the wire in the headliner. It gives my wife a backup camera she did not have. I wired to power from the mirror/camera in the truck to keep the wiring down to a minimum but put my wife's down into the lighter with a splitter.
The front camera is higher resolution and works well. The rear sees good at night but is 640x480 only. I mounted on the cab taillight on my truck.
They only record about 5 min of loop but auto save it if it feels a shock.
My complaint is in the truck that the lane assist camera is in the way but not enough to be a large problem. It is out of site and works well. I will likely upgrade this in the future as well. One additional thought is if you do the rear view mirror option touchscreen is not a great idea because then there are prints all over your mirror. Learned this the hard way.
This is the one I like the best so far:

You may want to find one with 170 degree camera but this is working for me so far.

I've got two Lukas dash cams and a Blackvue. All are two channel front and rear with GPS. Quality is very good for all. In my opinion, the Lukas design with separate SD cards for driving/parking and impact/event is an easier setup than the Blackvue single SD card. If you're looking for inexpensive though, these aren't it.

We use ROAV Dashcam, about $99 on Amazon. Will take up to 64GB micro card, lots of options, 3 minute increments. We had beautiful videos from the dash during our recent Alaska/Canada sojourn. They easily transfer to your phone, laptop or desktop

We have 3 BlackVue dual channel systems. ThinkWare is also a very good system. Two good sources of information and technical support are:
The Dashcam Store | Sales, Install and Support for U.S. and Canada
https://www.blackboxmycar.com/
One of the reasons we like BlackVue is their cloud service:
https://www.blackvue.com/blackvue-over-the-cloud/
We have a Verizon MyFi internet connection with unlimited data that we use in whatever vehicle is in use. You could also use the Wi-Fi Hotspot if your phone and/or plan supports it. The BlackVue cloud service supports:
1. Remote Live View
2. Two-way Voice Communication
3. Emergency Alarm
4. Video Backup to the Cloud if you need to safeguard an event(s)
5. Real-time Map-based GPS Tracking
6. Remote Video Playback

The best ones I have found are the RoadHawk HD2. Tracking overlay on to Google maps, speeds indicated in mph or kph and it measures the forces acting upon the vehicle (acceleration, braking, turns or swerves and impacts. I've been using RoadHawk products for years now and never had a problem. I still use the RH-2 which simultaneously records the inside and outside of the vehicle so that I can prove, if proof was necessary, that I wasn't on the phone or otherwise distracted.
