Since I posted my original question, I have had Dish Hopper 3 with 2 wireless Joeys installed at my home. It does require wifi, but a Dish specific wifi router comes as part of the system. It does not need to connect to the internet unless you are going to use Dish-on-demand or other internet services. The wifi router is only used to connect the remote Joeys to the main Hopper. I have moved the system between my house, cabin and motorhome and it is perfect for what I want to do. If I need to connect to the internet, I use my phone as a wifi hotspot and can then use Dish-on-demand, Netflix and other apps directly through any of the Dish devices.

I am in my motorhome now. I am using my cell phone as a wifi hotspot for internet, my grandson was using Netflix earlier and my wife is using Dish Anywhere on a tablet to catch up on her shows. I have Verizon and as long as I can get a decent signal, the wifi is great.

2018 GT 5 31R5. I am going to try installing a dish app on the TVs and use my IPhone to provide the WI-FI. Currently, I am still fixing other issues.

I have Verizon to but I must be doing something wrong because I burn up data pretty fast. I have 15 gigs on each iPhone (3 iPhones) 1 Jetpack, one ipad, all 15 gigs each of hotspot data. But somehow I will burn up data when I hook up to Netflix or Amazon Prime. I got to call Apple

Because I have to have WiFi to use it.....and I often don't have it. Leaving in 2 hours for 2 weeks at a campground that's remote (to fish) and I'd be without tv if I didn't have my portable satellite dish.

there are so many options! we have direct tv at home (genie main receiver, two mini genie remotes, and a video bridge). there is also a power inserter and direct tv splitter that routes power up to the antenna. there is one coax from the antenna to the main genie. the genie and mini genies are each connected to a tv via a single hdmi cable. they receive their data wirelessly from the main genie via the video bridge.


we have a winegard travller antenna on the trailer. we simple take the genie, the mini genies, and the video bridge from the house to the trailer and hook them up. we get the exact same channels in the trailer as we do at home (locals change as you travel out of the area). to make it simpler to hook up in the trailer I went to ebay and bought the power supplies, remotes, and hdmi cables for all the devices. that way all I have to take between the house and the trailer is the boxes (genie, mini genies, and video bridge). not having to take cables and remotes removes a lot of clutter. we do not pay anything extra to move these devices back and forth not do we have to call direct tv when we do.

I still have the original Verizon unlimited plan, so I don't have to worry about data limits.

I added a Dish Walley and ran the RG6 coax through a new hole I put in the wall above the refridgerator (I installed a gang box and a nice cover, so it looks OEM). I removed the fridge (takes 5-10 mins max) and inside the cavity, secured the coax to the far side wall, then had it come out where the Dometic fridge cover is. I use a female/female coupler and when we want to use the Tailgater, I simply hook up the extra cable there and I am good to go.

I then used a HDMI -> CAT-6 converter that has 3 TV ports and ran RG6 through the same area, so I can have an outside TV (I have a 43" 4K I bring that is on a stand, so we can set it up outside). I still need to run a RG6 to my front bedroom to get that to have Dish too. Probably do that in a week or two.
