Dynamat Doors

Hi all!

I have a 2021 class C on Ford's V8 E-450 cutaway chassis. I installed new front door speakers and figured it would be a good time to install sound deadening (in this case Dynamat) in the doors as long as I was in there.

When I removed the door panel I discovered that Ford uses a plastic barrier to prevent wind intrusion that's held on by an adhesive surface. I peeled this plastic off and laid it on two sheets of Dynamat that were overlapped slightly and laid everything on a scrap piece of plywood for cutting. I used the barrier as a template and to hold the Dynamat in place while I kneeled on it and cut holes in it with an X-acto knife to match those on the barrier for the speaker opening, door handle, etc. I prepped the door with an adhesive remover to clean the surface and installed as much Dynamat inside the door as I could comfortably reach with a roller. I was surprised to see that either Ford or Forest River had put a small piece of similar sound deadener on the inside of the door already. I then pealed the paper backing off the Dynamat, revealing the sticky side and put it on the door, factory barrier and all. I rolled the Dynamat with a roller purchased for this purpose. I put the new speakers in, cut and stuck some small pieces to make sure I didn't have any openings and reinstalled the door panels.

I was pleased with the results. Not only is the cab quieter but the speakers sound better, based on my unscientific before and after evaluation. Dynamat's not cheap but I think it's worth the results.

Butyl Rubber sound deadening mats work very well

I bought the Mat 66 80mil Butyl rubber sound deadening mats that are on Amazon and they are amazing! I have a 4x4 Nissan Titan truck and the road noise from these 4x4 knobby tires kills me, and its loud especially at highway speeds. I lined the two front wheel wells under the plastic splashguards with it, and it did in fact cut the road noise from about 75 Decibels according to my cell phone, to 70 db for about 1 hour worth of work. It was worth the $50 for the box, and it used about half the box. I will use the rest on the cab and read wheels when I get to it but it was money well spent if you hate road noise.
