EMS HW30C buzzing

I just installed a Progressive Industries HW30C in my Rockwood 2702. I show E0 and power goesto the trailer, but I'm hearing buzzing. It sounds like normal electrical buzzing I guess, but I don't remember it with the last one I did in my last trailer. Now, to be fair, I couldn't get all that close to the last one and this one I'm right up on. When the storage door is closed I don't really hear it, so it isn't super loud, but just wondered.

Can anyone else tell me whether I need to be concerned or not?

My 50C has a very slight buzz sometimes. Most likely normal.

I have my portable Pt30 mounted inside and always hear the faint buzzing pose it makes. If I didn’t hear it I’d suspect something wrong.

Some buzzing is normal. The EMS-HW30C has 120 volt relay inside. When plugged into power there's a control module that tests the incoming power. If the power tests good, the module sends 120 volts to energize the coil of the relay, closing the contacts to pass power to your converter and breaker panel.

I had some pictures of the EMS-HW50C but can't seem to find them right now. The difference between the two is the HW30C is a single phase starter and the HW50C is a 3 phase starter.

I found the photos of the EMS-HW50C with the cover removed. The EMS-HW30C has 2 pairs of contacts instead of three. The second photo has the flash guard removed to show the contacts.

It is a contactor or it could be called a relay. As stated above...the power from the pedestal causes the coil in the unit to be energized and complete the circuit to supply current to the RV.

Call Progressive Industries they have good customer service.

When I installed my HW30C I had a loud buzzing coming from the contacts. Loud and annoying! I called the help line and they told me that the contacts needed to be cycled a number of times and the buzzing would settle down. So I plugged it in and unplugged it a few dozen times and the buzzing went away.

I've worked with this type of contactors for over 25 years. The reason I called it a relay is that many people don't have the foggiest idea what a contactor is or what it does. I used the HW50C type of contactor to start 3 phase motors from 1/2 HP up to 100HP.

Call me in that group. I just know I can connect three wires on each side, but nothing about what's happening in between.
