Forester and Sunseeker mods
Hello all fellow owners. We purchased a 2021 Forester Classic 3041DS in April. Went from a 38ft Class A to this because the furniture had gotten pretty uncomfortable and we were looking at a bunch more expenses on it so we decided to go back to the class C. We love the floor plan and I especially like all the chassis upgrades FR and Ford did to these models.
But we have made a few mods I wanted to share that have made ours more to our comfort level. It has the walk-in closet so we decided to rework that and add a stacked washer-dryer in there. Moved the drawers from over the water heater and added the drawers to the other side so we didn’t lose drawer space. Also raised the hanging clothes rod on that side. See photos below.
Next I ran a separate electric wire (#12) from there to the storage compartment where the water and sewer connections are. I went through the sealed underbelly with the wire so nothing is dangling. There is a separated area from the wet area so no fear of getting the wire wet. That has a 20 amp plug on it so I can run it out through the sewer hose opening and connect it to the CG pedestal. So no overloading the coach breaker box.
Next I added an electric outlet on the wall behind the counter in the kitchen because the wife doesn’t like to see cords dangling from above. Also added one at the dinette so we can power the laptop when working there. More pics below.
There is a big waste of space between the dinette and the drivers seat so we added a hanging storage bin (actually 3 bins stacked together).
We had a couch with pop-out footrests in a previous coach and really liked that. I know sunseeker had that in some models but we could not find that for ours anywhere. Well I had one that had gotten replaced because it sagged on one side. So I reworked that and cut it down so it would fit our current couch. Did not want theater seats because we would have lost the jack knife bed. We use that for kids and grands sometimes.
I also added a 12v plug in the little storage slot at the top of the dash so I can plug in my remote brake controller and not have the cord dangling down to the existing 12v plug.
Finally, wife was not happy with the space on the passenger side of cab so I made 2 mods to gain space.
One was to replace the bulky console on the motor dog house with a much slimmer version I crafted from a piece of 1/8 inch plywood, thin foam, and vinyl material. I added a 2-place cup holder with phone slot unit to that. Now much better getting from cab area to living area.
The other issue was that the couch would not let the passenger seat in the cab slide all the way back or recline much. You had to choose between reclining with your legs scrunched up or sitting straight up to get the leg room.
So I cut down the left arm of the couch at the back so I could slide the couch toward the entry door of the coach. I had to cut that down because the outside TV is in a box that protrudes into the coach and the couch arms were around that box. I cut off 5 inches and covered the end back up with the excess material. I then moved the fire extinguisher to under the sink and slid the couch down to the edge of the step well.
Now we can slide the passenger seat in the cab all the way back and still recline it to a good enough position to take a nap!
Wife is happy now. So I’m happy!
