Fun Modifications . . . part 1 "More cabinet space"

I am posting pictures of a series of modifications that we have done to our 21 ft Shamrock camper to increase it's space efficiencey. We love the size and lightness of this camper for towing, but with six people in the family we had some storage issues. Here are the modifications that helped us out . . . (some big, some small).

Cabinet Modification

When we bought our trailer we noticed that there was a dead space in the cabinets between the dish cupboard and microwave. We enquired on this site and found out that this space is usually used for an optional stereo.
So we decided with some trepidation to knock out the front panel and see what we could do with the space behind it.
The space had some wires and the plug for the microwave, so we decided to build removable foam core walls which we covered with woodgrain mactac.
This way we can still access the plugs if we need to.
As you can see from the photos we were able to gain enough space to store our coffee pot and mugs. We trimed the front of this cabinet with a trim peice from the bathroom so that it would match the rest of the trim in this area.

Lady Wendolyn, these are wonderful ideas and great work.

but the Forum has a Mods section here for these types of posts.
or the Shamrock part of the Expandable section here, would also be a more appropriate area.

the Welcome Mat is for new members to introduce themselves and other members to welcome them.

There is some sort of problem I am with my computer when posting . . . I obviously do not want to post these mods to the welcome mat, however when I start a new thread it seems to go there by default. I am not sure what the problem is, but if you want to delete my posts because of this . . . then by all means do so.

Nicely done! Don't understand why RV manufacturers leave space wasted like this but they all do it.

Just a hint on posting in other sections, you need to navigate to that specific section and use the "post new topic" button in that section. The moderators can move your posts to a more appropriate section if they wish.

Good work!

Great use of the dead space!
I see bits of space in our new unit that aren't utilized or poorly utilized. The pull out pantry is a great example. Only 1/2 of the available width is actually used. In the back there is a huge amount of space at the sides and between the drawers. Behind the flat screen is a big chunk of dead space. Was that formerly for a TV with a picture tube?

There seems to be quite a bit of space given over for TV's in the campers.
We all have laptops etc. for watching movies so it was not too hard to give up in exchange for much needed space. It will be interesting to see how they build the tv's into the campers in the future as the screens get thinner and thinner . . . maybe the microwave door will double as a tv! LOL

Certainly not! you have some great ideas here that should be in the correct section for those who are looking for great Mods like yours.

if someone is looking for Mod ideas, they would be looking there but not necessarily in the Welcome Mat section for ideas.

just trying to help you get them in the best place for the members here to take advantage of.

don't know why it would post, by default, to the Welcome Mat section.
