Gas lifters for swing down cabinet doors

Our new Chaparral 5th wheel has 8 cabinets with doors that hinge from the top. This seemed inconvenient so I found gas lifters on Amazon that do a perfect job of holding them open. In order to install the lower pin I had to add a 1X1" block to the back of the door edge. For the 12" doors the dimensions needed are printed on the package. For the 10" doors I had to be a little creative. The cabinet pin was mounted as low as possible and the pin on the door was placed 6.25" above the frame pin. The strut is about 6" when fully compressed.

Here's the link for the lifter/strut (Apexstone 100N):

DH has ordered some for our unit but so far has had time to install only 2. Looking forward to getting them all in. We have 8 in the living area and 6 in the bunkroom so 2 down and 12 to go!

It's just hard to hold the door open and get anything out of the compartment. Our Flagstaff 5er came with struts on all the cabinet doors that swing up.

DH came into the living area when I was standing on the couch, with the door resting on the top of my head so that I could get something in the back of the cabinet; so he thought it would be a good idea to have them, for convenience sake. And I agreed. Have put some things in bins and will finish some storage items using more little bins but it's just nice to have both hands free to get something out of the cabinets without having to rest the door on my head.

We have the struts on the bed platform, too. The 2nd version of the 2015 IBL has the doors that open side to side and not bottom to top like ours, a modification I'm sure Coachmen made after feedback ? Our friends Vlite also has the gas struts on their overhead cabinet doors. Not sure why they weren't included on the IBL other than for cost.

Ours stay up until you put them down. No struts.

Command strips

We mounted "command" adhesive strips with a swivel wire hook positioned on the ceiling in a position where it catches the handle as you open the cabinet. Cheap solution that holds the door in place untill you are done! My brilliant wife thought of this solution.

Picked a set up at Camping World yesterday and mounted them in about 30 minutes. They work great and only about $10.
