Generator 50 amp mod
Recently I took my generator to the guy that I've dubbed " generator guru" to have him remove the worthless four prong 120 "15 amps" /240 "30 amps" volt floating neutral outlet and replace it with a 50 amp Rv plug to get a true 50 amps.
To my surprise he called me today and said I can pick up [emoji106]
The catch is I have 50 amps total available not the normal 100 amps "50 per leg" you'd find at a power pedestal.
So technically I can run both a/c units "if needed " and have approximately 15 to 20 amps left over.

Hmmmm I think I might need to bring mine over and see what can be done. I was just thinking about buying a new one.

I don think RV parks have 100 amp pedistals, they are 50 amp, 25 amp per leg. IMHO

Each leg "2" is an individual leg of 50 amps at a cg pedestal not 2 legs of 25 amps.

I believe it's a champion but not sure what model. Here's a picture of the panel. the one I was looking at had a rv plug in it out of the box. I'm not even convinced this one would run my ac anyway. It runs everything else and was a lifesaver when we had that major hail storm a few years ago and the power was out for three days.

No it won't run your a/c or maybe just barely.
The 120/240 plug shown is misleading, it says 30amp, however it's only 30 amp on the 240 side and 15 amp on the 120 side.
That generator with that plug could be 8000 watts but that outlet would remain 15amps.
I brought him the generator and the 50 amp receptacle and he charged me $80.00 to rewire it to 50 amp.
He did my other generator as well a few years back but it is wired for 30 amp.
And actually your household duplex plugs on there are rated for 20 amp and would be better.

I can believe that. I'll just get a new one that will do the job sometime later this summer. I rarely use it but we might be dry camping in August and I know for sure I'll want the A/C going. I'll sell this one at a garage sale or something at that time. This one I picked up at an auction and it's been a great little handy resource to have out here. I just need something a little bigger that could potentially run the well pump and the A/C (although not necessarily at the same time).

I put a Thrush muffler on a loud generator once.
Welded a flexible stainless nipple to the inlet side of the muffler and removed the stock, screw-in baby muffler and threaded the nipple into the head.
Had to make a tripod to hold the thing out away from the side of the Genny but it sure did make it quiet. I used that thing for several years like that.
I no longer have the genny but I believe that muffler is somewhere buried in the back shed.
