I am a VET and am proud to fly the USA flag. I also fly the law enforcement appreciation flag. I have a spot light on the rear of my 5th wheel to keep it lighted after dark. It is a spot light, not a flood light, so it should not bother other campers.

Just camped in Anza Borrego which is designated a dark sky area. I am sure if anyone had a beacon of light all night, the rangers would possibly be visiting that camper. Thankfully, no one was doing that so people could enjoy the stars and actually see the milky way.

And what’s the point of bringing a flag camping? Seems like leaving it at home is a good way to lighten your load.

Reduce weight you say?? My pole weighs maybe 4 pounds. I will fly it and illuminate it IAW the US Flag Code, when I want and where I want. It is not all about you dude. I served, I sacrificed to have the privilege of flying Old Glory when I want.

Personally, I kind of like them, but I do live out in the desert southwest, where those things are everywhere!

As far as them being annoying...not any worse than a neighbors campfire filling my 5'ver full of smoke!

Maybe there should be a special campground chain (like KOA) called IOW.

I always thought one served and sacrificed so that others would have the privilege to do whatever they wanted with Old Glory. I think my dad served and sacrificed for me.

I don’t know on this one. If you want to fly the flag then you should but I don’t like light pollution either. Wish I had a good answer. I think that I would talk to my camping neighbors to make a decision.

A well hung US Flag properly lit (not a strobe light beacon) at night will never offend me. Never. I’ve stood at attention and cried at the sounding of our national anthem. In fact, I’m getting my flag pole tomorrow. Looking forward to the maiden hoist and salute! Guess it is a veteran thing. Cheers to you all.

Giant LED flagpole beacon

I’m a vet, love and respect the flag, but I also have respect for others. People go camping to get away and get back in tune with the outdoors and looking up at the sky at the majestic stars, light diminishes that, any major lighting, be it awning lights, lights people string around their site. These campsites are close together and no one has respect for neighbors anymore.

God bless America, God Bless the Flag! Old glory is as majestic during the day.

Just my humble opinion.

You sound like my uncle who is a vet who flew F4s in Vietnam and likes to camp without people's lights.

My personal opinion...

If anyone doesn't like lights...

Then boondocking is the answer for you, and RV parks are not!

When I was in Sedona, AZ last summer (a supposed 'dark city'), a bunch of RV'ers complained if you walked through the RV park with a small flashlight turned on.

Yet said nothing about the bright street lights laced throughout the RV park.

I left that tiny little yellow light on under the steps one night while there and found a 'ticket' with a warning taped to the door the next morning.

Hhhmmmmm.....

Well..."camping" and RV Parks don't really go together anyway.

That’s why I do not do RV parks or resorts, but that mentality is encroaching on state parks, and fed parks.

I too am a Vet and proudly fly both the American Flag as well as a "US Army Vet" flag. My pole has a light on top that doesn't seem to detract from the view.

In fact several people came by my campsite near Quartzsite in January and asked me about both the flags and the light.

It's enough light for me to find my campsite at night but not enough to read a newspaper/book while sitting under it. I've seen those but usually not after any wind. The larger the light, the quicker the flag pole breaks
