I just saw your #3 mod so I got curious as to what #1 and #2 were. This one is pretty cool because I have the 22" grill as well and I store the stand in a separate compartment. That's close to 50 pounds for the grill, top and stand, isn't it?

I take it you just secure the "top" piece of wood with a strap in back or something so you cannot pull it all the way out and drop it on your foot? Or is that a drawer slide I see?

Is the "donut thingy" at the left front a pin to keep it from sliding while traveling?

Why does the front piece of wood need to swivel?

Great thinking and even better sharing. Thanks!

Yes, it all weighs about 50 lbs.

I made a 4 sided box approx. 3 3/4" tall except at the front to clear the split 2x4. The box fits snug front to rear and has screws at the rear to prevent tipping when pulled out. The top piece of wood is flat and attached to a split 2x4 and drawer slides to each side.

You are right there is a 1/4-20 knob threaded into the wood to prevent sliding.

When you slide out about 6" the 1"x 1" wood is removable with a wingnut under the bottom. The wood is angled to fit the leg of the stand. There is an attached 1"x 1" angled at the rear to fit the back of the stand. Removing the front wood allows you to slide the grill and stand forward for easy loading and unloading. Sliding forward must be done because the top of the grill touches the door frame for about 1/4". Everything is a very tight fit. The 1"x 1" holds the table and grill secure.

If you look closely at the grill there is a screen door handle on each side of the grill at the balance point, makes for easy moving.

Thanks for all of the detail. Wouldn't it have been easier to just have your wife lift it out and in?

I just saw the handles. That is just brilliant because that thing can be a bear to lift unless you move the griddle separately and that's tough to do with the lid. Did you put doubler plates behind them?

Yes-- wife would have been easier than building except she is worse off physically than me.

I used 3/16 bolts, fiber lock nuts, and fender washers for backing.

When I set up the Blackstone I have an aluminum table that I set just the griddle on,then set up the Blackstone table and move the griddle over to it.

Very sadly, I cannot duplicate what you did on mine but I did kill two days trying.

I have a sliding tray mounted on the "hump" in the middle that extends out the driver's side. It's really nice because I have all of my tools in it. But its frame protrudes 1.5" into the passenger side compartment. That pushes the grill 1.5" outward and causes the lid handle to hit the compartment door.

With the grill sitting directly on the compartment floor there is only 1.5" from the top of the grill lid to that frame protrusion so I really don't have much room to work with. <sigh>

The only way I could do this would be to relocate the grill to a more forward compartment and that will put it under a slide, which might be trading one back problem for another.

I’m sorry you can’t make the Blackstone fit the compartment. Sounds like lots of effort to not get the results you want.

I haven't given up yet. Maybe it's time to break out the torch. Or cut some of that insulation out of the door without my DW knowing. "No, dear, that horizontal slot was always there."
