heater vents

Ever get tired of dirt getting in heater floor vents when not in use? I did and came up with an idea of cutting out plastic covers out of the cheap plastic cutting board that you buy from Wally world, you know the ones that have 3 or 4 in a pack. Take the vent up and cut to fit outside cut hole and drill hole where screws go and then replace vent cover. No more dirt or dust getting into vent and then remove when cooler weather comes. May be old to some but I was proud when I figured it out

I replaced all of mine with residential models that can be closed. That way they catch the dirt before it gets into the ducts. Check Lowes or Home Depot. They carry different sizes.

Same here that way we can keep them closed in summer and in fall or spring if we need to throw on the heat, just open the vents.

We've replaced the stock plastic ones with louvered metal stick house versions as well. We even go as far as buying those magnetic covers for the vents during the summer ... makes cleaning easier.

We have a beagle and two Chihuahua mix dogs, plus we very the coast/beach often. Dog hair and sand easily get past closed louvers. So what works for us is to wrap the vent in a couple of layers of the Blue painters tape. You can tape just the underside of the vent and the tape will trap ALL dirt from falling into the vent. It is easily peeled off for winter use.
