Go here and see for yourself if it is something for you...
Hott Rod XP
As mentioned... when you remove the anode rod on a Suburban WH to install the Hott Rod, you lose the protection afforded by the original anode which is about 8" long and 1/2"-5/8" in diameter.
The specs for the Hott Rod say the threaded bushing that screws into the Suburban tank includes some sort of anode capability. What that capability is or how much, I have no clue. Pictures don't really show it.
So... for those who regularly check their factory installed anode and see little to no deterioration, (dependent on water quality) then the amount of anode protection in the threaded bushing of the Hott Rod 'may' be enough to continue to protect your WH.
If your anode gets used up rather quickly (dependent on water quality) then whether the threaded bushing has enough protection is a chance each one is going to have to weigh personally.

Since you have to run wiring to the new WH anyway, I would strongly suggest you install a switch for it somewhere inside your rig; then you can leave the outside switch on and can turn the electric on/off from inside.
I added a pilot light switch to my WH outlet so I can do this. See Post #13 here:
https://www.forestriverforums.com/fo...-110742-2.html
Actually, since you're starting new, you can probably just run the 110 directly from the breaker to the switch and then to the WH; so you wouldn't to do it my way. Just make sure you use approved electrical boxes.

Better than none, of course. And a LOT cheaper than whole new WH.
