I made one from a plastic potato masher. Just snip the centre out in the approximate shape of the knob and shove the handle into a piece of pipe that's long enough to reach the vent.

Vent knob

Very clever ... ... nice to have a DIYer in da house

For future reference, can buy a hook tool for that at RV shop, with replacement knob that has a silver D hook on it ... not expensive.

Nah! Use a stepper motor on a ball screw or lead screw actuator.

The digital fans will love it! Control the rotation a degree (1/360th of a rotation) of the crank! True precision!

[QUOTE=U.S.ArmyVeteran;2737060]I offered the "War Department" a pogo stick. Guess where it ended up.

Did the ER remove it ?

I've been thinking of modding one for a while now. I'm curious as to WHY you made SIX "notches" rather than FOUR (or eight)?

Lol
I had an answer for that. But it was beyond even my limited sensibilities. :-)

Looks like they're running about $20. My solution was about $3 and maybe 20 minutes of work while sitting around the fire chatting with friends (mostly they were making jokes about me cutting my hand and laughing at me ).

Mostly future solar plans. I plan on going over top of the air conditioners, vents, and whatnot. I want to wait to see how that turns out before putting vent covers on.

Sad to say, your pictures didn't make it for me. You might have to adjust permissions to make them public.

No reason other than I'm a simple man. Marked it and cut it.

I laid the handle on top of the coupler and marked out each of the "nubs" with a sharpie. Then I just notched each one out.

A practical approach and regardless, it works.

A word of caution though. If your vent and handle are anything like mine be careful that the handle doesn't get pushed up. On mine there is a locking feature. Push up and handle engages some "ribs" that prevent handle rotation. Found out the hard way.

For a good laugh, I'll tell you how I turn that knob on the Vent in the bathroom. I use the handle of my hair brush, put it next to those stick out flower petal looking things and push and push the next one, etc. etc. While on my tip toes. Too lazy to get that step stool!

nice work! A little sanding and a coat of spray paint and people will be asking where they can buy one.
