lazy man's power awning mod .

OK well after much anticipation on my part and maybe a little anticipation from some of the forum members .... Only because I have been teasing for a week or so about this new mod I dreamt up while maybe consuming a few coors lights .

So nine times out of ten we go camping and get to the camp site and we get the camper setup .
the dw takes care of the inside stuff and I take care of the outside rigamarole.

we finally sit down to the fire and such and realize my darn ole POWER awning is still in the transport mode hmmmmm what to do ? I got a cold beer in one hand and I just got settled in my half a** broken folding bag chair .
so I reach in my pocket and grab this .

which in turn operates this unit remotely .

I know I know lazy lazy lazy !
But hey were camping not WORKING !
So I made my little hum drum life a little easier . WHY not ?
I know the dw just shook her head and pointed at her ring finger and said I need something BIGGER here soon .

As I researched about how to do this and if it was even feasible I found that the awning power system was really easy .
since we already have a momentary rocker inside I had to figure out how it powered the awning and found that the rocker simply just just reverses the polarity of the motor . Huh thats easy all I need is a remote control that reverses polarity which after a little bit of searching I found one .
A few clicks later and 20 bones it was on its way .
Installed it tonight after work in about 35 minutes . And altho preliminary tests shows that IT does in fact work I cannot fully deploy my awning since the winds are in the 20 mph range and 30 mph gusts .
But I did run it out and in about 3 foot about 6 times and all is good!
I will do some further testing to make sure but its so simple that I cannot for see any issues .

Nice mod, by the way. I might "borrow" your idea, after the proper "preparation" of course!

That's really cool. Could you show us how you hooked it up with some pics. With my awning one arm seems to get caught up when it starts to retract, so it would mean getting up and giving a little tug on the arm to help it get going. I do like the electric awning better.

I would like to make this mod as well. I hate being inside moving the awning and not being able to monitor it. I hit a tree with it already. No damage done but I could have stopped the awning before hitting it if I was out side watching it deploy.

Awesome mod!

Can you provide a link to your source?
