Gas Struts

Hay, have you thought of putting a gas strut on your front door? I would like to, along with a pair on the cargo door that does not have one from the factory....got any ideas?

Lippert has a 10 pound strut on their web site. My camper came with a 20 pound strut and I had to remove it because it was destroying my door. The lock was binding; the top left of the door was hitting the frame and the hinges were being bent.

There is a thread here as well.

You can also see that in less than a year the piston had ripped the screws out of the frame.

I re-positioned both anchor points 2" closer to the hinge, pop riveted the door anchor and thru bolted the hinge anchor and it works great! Holds the door open over 90d and still misses the awning. Also helps close the door. We like it fine and no damage to anything.

The remote awning is great. Our Cherokee came with a remote for the awning and for the slide. The slide is real nice if you are close to something,u can stand out there and watch the slide so it does not hit a tree or something.Does make for ease with a beer in hand.

Awning Remote

Hey, I can only wish..we are just now getting use to the electric awning..having the manual one on the Sunnybrook, which we never use any longer, was a pain in the rear..especially on a windy day....I can wait for bigger and better things down the road...

With a double pole double throw switch in the lines; the switch will select the interior wall switch when flipped one way (thus function as a kill switch) and off the remote only when flipped the other way.

Both sides would be isolated from the awning motor and there would be no worry of a possible short circuit thereby letting all the smoke genies out of the module.
Ok Lou, I have got a question. I wired it up like this but I can not make it work. Was I supposed to use a different 12V source for both sources, it can I use the same source for both. It still works when the switch is set to the original awning switch, but will not work with the remote, possible a bad xmitter or remote is what I am thinking. Any input to this

Thanks Scott

You may not like the power one from the standpoint of you can't tie it down for windy conditions without poles of some kind. The operation of the power is great.

Scott,

Without a wiring diagram to show me how you hooked it up I can be of limited help.

Remember that you are switching the MOTOR lines not the power.

When the switch is in "CAMPER", power comes from the wall switch.
When the switch is in "REMOTE" power comes from the remote control's power source (mine is from a basement light).

Poles

Please explain to me what the poles purpose would be verses the old tie down method of rope and the screw in dirt anchors?thanks

The power awning does not have a very sturdy arm going back to the camper and it is hinged in the middle and is anchored about 1/2 way down on the side of the camper as opposed to the telescoping leg that went to the bottom of the manual awning which could also be disconnected and set on the ground.
