Led lights in 2004 model 1980 popup

I wanted to know has anyone put in led bulbs in a 2004 model 1980 popup? I wasn't sure if wiring needs to be redone or if you can just change bulbs? I like to keep the original fixtures since I can plug In the fans to them. But also need brighter lights to read by.

Are they 12v bulbs or 120v?
Your statement about plugging the fans into the fixtures has me puzzled.

The popup has a fan light combo and I just plug in the interior light housing as for bulbs I just connect
to the power at the campground so I'm assuming not 12v bulbs.

All the lights in a popup should be 12v DC.

Well in either case (12v or 120v) there are lots of LED bulbs to choose from these days.

Since they are 12V light bulbs to begin with, remove one and take it to a car parts place for an LED replacement with the same base. Many of the standard bulb bases will come in a couple of brightnesses and possibly red, yellow, and white. You will pay a lot more, but you will get what you need, and the control circuitry won't freak from the 14.4V your converter sometimes puts out.

I have done this for my brake/tail lights, and will do it at another time for the clearance lights, the porch light, and the tongue light.

Or order online and pay less. The bulb number (read it off the 12V bulb) should specify the correct base.

The newer PUPs and A-frame have LED lights hard-wired in - it's not just a simple bulb replacement. You get to replace the entire fixture - ask me how I know.

See what bulb you have and order a pack of bulbs on Amazon. You can get 10 bulbs for less than $25.00. You existing fixtures and wiring will be fine. LED bulbs only draw about 10% of the power.

Great upgrade, you can buy LED bulbs that fit. It's worth the price $ & saves the battery. Check out any camping/ RV store, online too.

Easy upgrade and well worth the money IMHO.

Which bulb does your unit currently have? I prefer the flat plate bulb versus the round style LED. I did all of the 921 bulbs in my Coleman for less than $30, made a huge difference in the heat as well as the draw on the battery and converter. Prior to switching the converter fan ran most of the time when there were two or more lights on. After the switch to LED even with ALL the lights on it seldom came on.
