Liteswich RV - running light actuator

Anyone using one of these? Looks like a cool product to use either in RV park or other place where it is dark to identify and make your trailer stand out. It is called liteswich and just plugs into your 7 pin connector. Uses your batteries or shore power to run it.

I fabricated my own by stripping 5/8" of insulation off of both ends of a 3" piece of 12awg wire. I can plug the ends into the correct slots of my trailer's electrical cord. I don't do it in campgrounds, however, to reduce my "light pollution footprint".

Wow, $30!!!

Just insert a 15amp fuse into the 1 o'clock and 11 o'clock slots on your trailers hitch cable. It's a LOT cheaper than 30 bucks!

Here's a pic from Herk in post #54:

Nice. Thanks for the info. Didn't know I could do that to make it work!

I agree on not using in low populated natural campgrounds. I would mainly use for desert trips, RV parks, and at home occasionally for parties!!!

If you really want to stand out, and up your chances of either making your neighbors mad or getting abducted by aliens.... go to the auto store and get a flasher to plug in.

Looking again, I checked out all the photos. It looks like it's just a 7-pin connector with a switch built into the end. There is one positive about it:

Some folks actually attach something like this to their frames to provide a place to "store" the cable and keep the end out of the dirt.

But if you wanted that, you can buy the connector for $5 at etrailer.com, leaving you $25 to hook up some wires and a switch (or a flasher!) if you wanted to.

I would have to get an electronic flasher as our lights are all LEDs. Also are you sure you would need a jumper wire, the flasher would make the jump as it worked, I think?

I'm not doing flasher. Just the fuse block and fuse. Just some nice light to locate trailer when out in desert. Everyone uses LED whips and that gets distracting.

All you need is the fuse. See pic in link in post 3.

And I think it will stay in the connector better than wires.

I've had a similar item for years. It also works great if you have trouble and have to leave your rig on the side of the road.

Now that's something I hadn't thought of!

Got to thinking about this jumper wire thing. We were leaving a campsite just at dark a few years ago when I noticed I didn't have any running lights. Got out and checked the plug on the PU and didn't have any power to the park/clearance/taillight terminal.
So I cut a small piece of wire and jumped it from the battery power terminal to the taillight slot. Plugged the pigtail back in, that held the jumper wire in place and we went on home without any problem.
I had to unplug the trailer when we got home to shut the lights off. Found corrosion had ate up the wire on the receptacle backside. Easy fix in my shop at home.

I've never seen the need or draw for firing up my running lights at the campground. I see plenty of people do it and could care less even if they leave them on 24/7. We have our fair share of LED and tacky lights on the canopy and EZ up etc.

I just never could understand putting an extra continuous load on the converter of around 36 to 40 watts, causing the bulb to burn out earlier which requires you to get a ladder to change, and every time you remove and reinstall those pop on cheap lenses they get looser as far as fit.

I guess if it floats your boat.
