Made a heat shield for the Griddle.

Most likely not needed but the side of the trailer does get toastie with the griddle. I only seasoned it so far and the side was very warm. So I made my own heat shield. I made it out of an old stainless steel chimney cap I had around and edged it with auto trim. It hooks onto the rail.

Nice job. I use that outside shelf for everything BUT cooking, I have a stand alone GCI cook station I used for the tabletop gas grill, so no heat shielding issues, but the grill is built with a giant gap between grill and back of lid that with a sea breeze is a real PITA. Going to try to remember to bring the folding wind shield that came with my little butane stove to try to address that situation.

Nice!

Looks great. I don't have a slide for my griddle, but I have wondered about the heat marring the paint or decals on those that do. Nice job.

That is nice handy work. I was looking to do something similar-you have inspired me to do a more professional looking application like yours. My issue is not only a concern with heat but splatter on the trailer which is hard to see until the next time you use the camper and you see the black sooty mold growing where the grease spattered. The splatter is directly behind but also a foot to the right and left of the grill.

We have the same Suburban griddle on our Flagstaff MicroLite 21FBRS and after the first camping trip I noticed the grease splatter on the side of the trailer. I bought a small folding table to put the griddle on so it can be moved away from the trailer, as well as a longer LP hose. The table is very light and folds up very small for travel. Found both items on Amazon.

Take the high road. It's usually less muddy.

Suburban grill splatter, wind issues

I was searching on-line and see Blackstone makes a wind guard (double as a splatter guard) for their small grill that looks like it would fit the 18” Suburban grill we have. It’s their 17-22” adjustable wind guard. Here is a link to it on the Lowe’s web site. It’s $30-has terrible reviews all about not fitting under the Blackstone lid and not being able to clean out the drip cup (on the backside of the Blackstone). What I like is the Suburban doesn’t have a lid and the drip cup is on the front. This might work-thanks Bridgestone!

I haven’t ordered it yet but wondering if anyone else has similar wind guard that works.

Also see that Suburban has a pizza oven that fits the 18” grill. Anyone have this accessory and how does it work?

We use a Weber Q and we also carry a small table that rolls up. We tried the griddle and it cooks fine buy seems like a PIA to clean after we’re done cooking that’s why we got the Q

We also really like the Suburban griddle that was supplied with the trailer and agree it works really well. I like the size and that it stores in the compartment much better than other portable grill we have used. The beauty of having it on the trailer rail is that when the trailer is level so is the griddle—the griddle and drip tray will work best when level. A griddle will be more difficult to level with a separate table unlike a grill where it’s less important.

I also carry a portable (folding) table for a wash basin but I like an REI 4’ kitchen prep table-with adjustable height/leveling feature. Along with an extended hot water hose/nozzle the table sets up nicely to the left of my grill. It makes cleaning dishes and the griddle a snap. We like the supplied portable table so close to the griddle on the rail for sauces/seasonings and a roll of paper towels. I think Rockwood really thought this application out well.

Related to my previous post about the Blackstone Wind Guards for the griddle, I have ordered it from Lowe’s and will report back on the fit and if it solves the wind and splatter problem. It sticks up 3” around and may not be enough for all the splatter but should prevent wind gusts from negatively affecting the flame. I think I’m going to also try to copy the stainless guard (from original post on this thread) in back of the griddle.

The Blackstone griddle wind guard arrived. The width is perfect for the Suburban griddle--the back holes align but the front holes are too long. So two new holes need to be drilled for the griddle and it works great. I will attempt to attach a few pictures.

I believe this is going to help on wind issues. It also packs up very small and will get added to my grill box. Not sure it will cut down on the spatter issue but adds another structure to add additional shields if necessary.

Finally figured out how to attach a few pictures of the Brookside Wind Guard on my Suburban griddle.
