Maxxair Fan

I’m looking at adding a Maxxair Fan to my 2016 Coachman 320BHDS in the master bedroom up front. I only have the single AC currently and mine was only wired for 30A from the factory. Anyone have any idea if there is usually 12v wiring in the ceiling around the vent opening that I can tap in to?

Thanks
Bob

I can't speak for your unit specifically. However, when I went to install a Max fan in my 2005 trailer I was surprised to find wiring sitting there By the vent. Best thing to do is take the lower vent assembly off and feel around the edges between the ceiling where the insulation is. You might be pleasantly surprised like I was. Good luck

I don't know if the trailers are the same but my 2017 coachmen pursuit motorhome had a wire tucked up in the ceiling at the vent, you should be able to see it if you remove the inner cover, there was a wire in the fuse panel that had to be connected into one of the empty fuse. I'm pretty sure it had a label on it. Maybe you will be lucky and have the same thing.. We love our maxxfan, was worth every penny.

Thank you guys for the quick replies. I know the fan is pricey but I was hoping there was value in it. I will take your advise and pull the lower shroud down to see what I can find. Fingers crossed.

Thank again!
Bob

I had the Fantastic Fan in my last RV and now have the MaxxAir which was installed at the factory. Not at the top of my list but a future project will be replacing the MaxxAir with a Fantastic Fan, mainly because of the remote.

I had a Maxxair in my last RV and it had a wired remote and a rain sensor. It it rained while we were gone, we didn't worry about it because the sensor would turn the fan off and close the lid. It saved my bacon a few times.

I pulled the lower shroud off the vent and was happy to find two sets of 12v wiring within the opening. One set powered the ceiling light about 2 feet away and the other set ran to the exhaust fan in the bathroom next to the bedroom. Looks like I got lucky with true power right there.

When I installed one in my 231rbds I just tapped into the light in the bedroom. Not sure if your bedroom lights come on with the main switch, but if they're the push button kind there's constant 12v there.

I pulled the wiring from rear vent in my 2016 Forester 2401R... the result was 3 white and 3 grey/black. Wiring is not my thing, any ideas on how do determine which to use for maxxair fan install?

Take a multimeter or test light and determine if there's power between the white wire and grey/black wire. Likely white is positive and grey-black is negative but a multimeter will let you know. You'll want there to be a constant 12v there.

Will do....my other question is, since there are 3 white stranded together and 3 black wire stranded, would I use all 3 stranded wires in the connection?

You don't need to. All the wires are combined under the marette. It'd probably be easiest to remove the marette, get a bit bigger size, and combine your fans wire with the other 3.

You can also try these push-in connectors to add a 4th wire.

There’s no hard fast rule, but I’m finding that the white wires are typically the ground or negative, and the other wire is your 12 volt feed.
A digital meter will determine if that’s the case in your rig.
For your fan, just make sure the power is ON all the time and not just when you turn ON a light.
