Modify cargo door with slam locks

The cargo doors to my basement and front storage area have thumb locks on either end and a keyed cam lock in the center. I was thinking about replacing the thumb locks with slam locks and was wondering if anyone has done this mod before and if so, how did it work out and were there any regrets.

The first pic is a cargo door similar to the configuration of what I have now with the thumb locks on either end and the keyed lock in the center. The second pic is the type of slam lock that I am thinking about installing.

Thanks for looking,
Tom

I did it....used Lippert metal ones.....be aware that slam latch doors are thicker....needed to make a shim on backside to take difference up.....also added 2 gas struts to each door

Any drawbacks besides the shim, anything you would have done differently? And did you by chance post this mod on the forum?

Thank you for sharing,
Tom

I wouldn't, that door and frame wouldn't accept many slams. It appears to be two thin sheaths separated by injected foam.

That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you very much for going to the trouble to get me those pics. I really appreciate it.

Thanks again,
Tom G
