My solution to awning lights

Ok so here goes. Here's a few pictures and a little video of my install.




Where I mounted the power box with Velcro. So all I have to do is unplug and remove it to retract the awning.



This where I spliced the wire from the old power supply to the wires I ran down the awning arms. I also wrapped them in heat shrink.


This is where I ran the wire into the front storage. I have since applied new caulk to keep it weatherproof.


I spliced into the wires that run to the light in the front storage with scotch locks and cut a little notch out of the side of the light so the wires wouldn't be smashed when reattaching the light.m

below is the link to the little video of the functions of the strip. The white feature is just all the colors on at the same time.

Other than a little more goop in the trailer side hole it looks GREAT.

Thanks fellas! Like I said I am definitely not a genius with this stuff, so needless to say I'm pretty proud of my job with this! Thanks for the advice herk, more goop has been applied and we should be good to go. My only concern is the weather getting to the plug that goes I to the power box while in storage mode. Any suggestions?

I plan on looking around for a rubber "cap" to put on it.

Like this maybe. Lowes might have what I need in the hardware department.

I would suggest a little plastic compartment like for switches to put the whole shebang in.

Not really planning on cutting big holes in the camper for these lights. I may be sick of them in a year (or they might burn out).

A waterproof box (like a dive box) might be a better solution.

That definitely won't work. Just need something to protect plug that goes into the power box. This plug will be sitting in the top of the awning arm where the awning motor plug is.

Here is what it looks like at night on the "white" setting. That setting is all the lights on at the same time. Seems to be plenty of light for me.

Don't cut a hole, just attach the box to the bottom of the rail with the lights. If the lites get old, take the whole shebang down.

I think I will copy Herks placement so the lights don't shine inside the camper, that is if DW doesn't catch me working on them and squelch the whole project.

But you can always rotate the awning a little to shine light done or out more if they were in the roller?

Wiring is easier for me and once I stake the awning down, rotating the awning is not an option. Herk's way just looks simpler for me, and I dern sure need it simple. I'm a firm believer of the KISS principle from necessity.
