Thank you, Herk, I did not know that. Ed attached the LED's directly to the RV as our awning is manual and the material from the awning is directly against the RV' no exposed tube. I am anxious to see the lights at night.
I really want some of the LED's on the steps and in the cabinets like you have, but I think Ed is done with mods for now. I have driven him crazy with stuff.

hi,
Most of us have gone with these LED light strips. You can wire direct to 12V or 110V with included transformer. I bought mine from this guy.

I have the light strip installed under the rain gutter for a year and it has worked very well. Some break down in integrity of the diodes but I have the more modern set to replace them with. But this weekend I replaced the original outside porch light with a Smart Light 1000 - RV Motion Sensor Light in black to match the rest of the trim. List for around $60.00 got it on amazon for 48.00 and free shipping it looks great and when you take the dog out at 3:00 am it's nice to have it come on for that quick trip and go off so as to not attract then nasty Mosquitos . Picture is of the white model and comes with a diode bulb.

Looks like the same ones I got on Amazon but I paid more!!
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Here they are on my last trailer, have them on my new one also but no pics, I bought the 16' extension and ran it down the awning arms concealed behind the plastic strips that hide the wiring, mounted everything in the cargo bay with IR antenna hanging down to catch the signal from the remote, i do have to connect and disconnect them at the awning tube after and before I roll the awning. I just received the second set I ordered to put up against the trailer on the aluminum strip of the awning bracket and tie it in with a splitter so both run at the same time off of one remote

Do a search for post from oldcoot on this thread. He wired his step light with the dusk to dawn control. You would need to buy either 12V or 120V control depending on how you wired your lights? It would also depend on if you are using a switch ect...
You can buy from Ebay for cheap china ones.

I put some white LEDs in my F150. I put 2 small strips in the console storage and used the tape that was on the LEDs. Put 2 long strips in the bed of my truck and used 3M automotive double sided tape. The ones in the bed of the truck haven't moved in a year. The ones in the console fell off after about 6 months. Even though the ones on the LEDs said 3M I didn't trust it when I installed them on my camper.
Just wanted you to be aware and keep an eye on them.

This thread has so many posts that I may have missed the answer to this question. So apologies if this has been addressed before.
The clear soft plastic that encapsulates the individual LED's on my awning lights has yellowed so that the white setting is nowhere as bright as it was when new.
Anyone else have this issue?? Is one brand better than another when it comes to yellowing??
Also, since I may be replacing my lights, I thought about those shown in this youtube video :
These are REALLY programmable compared to all the rest I've seen. Some of the modes I wouldn't even use unless I was running a bordello so some such!!!
Not sure where to find them though; anyone recognize the brand??
Boowho??

The plastic on the house Christmas lights yellowed out in less than a year.
Plastic is NOT very UV tolerant.

Target
We were at Target this morning, looking through the Christmas lights on display, I came across a very nice 12'-0 LED Set that has a small controller similar to the ones we have all purchased from the web. The big difference was, this set was covered with a flexible clear covering that would protect them when being used out doors. Liked the design and construction of these lights, right up until I saw the price for the 12'-0 set, $89.99! Think I will keep my $16.00 5050 (32'-0) that I paid for this past summer, and is still working fine.

I am sure the LEDS all have the same clear plastic covering on them but here is what you are looking for.
They are called New 5M 5050 RGB Dream color 6803 IC Waterproof LED Strip Light 133 Color Change
Some of the EBAY sellers are trying to get $100 bucks a set, this guy wants $30. They all seem to be the same from China.

I tried the link you mentioned; that price appears to be ONLY the light strip itself.
Here's one I found that appears to be identical to the one in the you tube window:
[url=http://www.aliexpress.com/item/5050-RGB-SMD-Magic-Horse-Scroll-Racing-LED-Strip-Light-Chasing-54led-m-5M-81-Program/673715420.html[/url]
As far as yellowing, maybe a UV inhibitor (like 303) a couple of time per year would help??

FWIW. I ordered my lights from eBay also. I went on a previously mentioned post(at the beginning) and inquired about an order, but I had to use a credit card online from Chiba.. I was a little nervous about that. I referred mine and got then in. I ordered indoor lights to start in bright white. I have not installed then for undercounted lights, but that's my plan. I felt like PayPal was more secure and got them for about the same price. They came from China also.

Now what has happened..
Up until our last camping trip, my 5050 LED lights under my awning rail have worked perfect.. this trip was something else.. Only some of the lights worked in varying numbers of leds illuminated.. You can see from the pictures below what I ma talking about... I made sure all connections were tight, and that full dc voltage was available to the controller. Before if try to remove the strip of lights and replace them (will be tough to do since I used 3-m auto trim tape to attach them with), I wanted to see if anyone had any experience or ideas what I might do. The lights were purchased on auction site as many others on this site have done.. maybe they are just cheap to begin with BUT... appreciate any ideas...

If water gets into the back of the LEDs or the resistors, the corrosion can alter the voltage enough (at the LED) to cause it not to fire. if this happens to one LED, the entire 3 LED section will not light that color.
The solution is to see if it comes back in dry weather or you can cut out a section and replace it using the special butt connectors available on eBay; you will need 2 per running section replaced.
10mm Width 4pin LED Connector Adapter for 5050 LED RGB Color LED Strip US Seller | eBay
I have a few feet that I did not use in my installation and will be using it to repair any burned out sections in mine. Make sure you use the correct alignment and not install the replacement upside down.
