Outside access to under sofa?

Iíd like to get everyoneís opinion about a possible mod Iím thinking of making on a 2018 Coachmen Freelander 27QB

We have a jackknife sofa with storage under it thatís difficult to access.

There is an outside storage compartment directly next to the sofa. It is designed for an outside TV which we will never use. On the picture thatís attached there is an electrical outlet and coax outlet that sit directly below the inside floor level

Also attached is a picture taken under the sofa that shows a metal box. This box is apparently what the tv would be mounted to. I have no idea what the purpose of this box is and why they used that rather than wood.

So would it be possible to cut off this metal box at floor level so I could access the storage under the sofa from outside? If so how would I do that and cover the top of the remaining box?

I don't see why not. What I'd do first is try to disassemble and see if I could remove it instead of taking a saw to it. The logic there is if you are disassembling and see something that makes it look like it really needs to be there, you just put it back.

If you need to patch holes from removing it, just use plywood. If you want to save the weight and all it needs to do is stop things from falling through the hole, use ⅛" or ľ". If you want something stout that can hold weight, go with Ĺ'.

Can you attach those pics one at a time? that allows us to blow them up more clearly.

I don't see any reason you can't remove it and even put a sliding drawer in there to access the area under the jackknife. I can't tell how much space you have, but you could build something custom to go under there.
