Power hook awning tensioner
I was looking into purchasing something to leave the awning out in all weather as we are now full timers. Anyone with any experience know if these will hold up to occasional windstorms?

Are you talking about an Awning hold down kit like this that have straps from the awning to a dirt screw?

I've used that one with success. I just use an anchor into the ground on each side, connect the spring and straps, and haven't had any issue with wind.

If your unit has a Elect. Awning I would (NOT) use this type of hold down! Youroo!!   I am referring to the (Spring or Ratchet Type)!

The problem I have with this is if the wind is strong enough for long enough something is going to give.
Whether it is the awning arms or the material or where it is fastened to the wall.

you can make that for about $15 buy 2 springs at hardware store and 2 dog tie outs at dollar store most have straps already but cheap ratchet straps at Harbor freight or Wal Mart.
I used springs from our kids trampoline that i saved when it got trashed and had the straps, dog ties were $2 total at dollar store. Used Orange ratchet straps for the people that can't see the black ones.

If it is a power (electric) awning, it is strongly recommended that you also use poles to support the awning/tube.

mark0224,the power hook awning tensioner has a part that hooks into the awning tube slot. When positioned correctly, it will turn the awning tube to tighten the fabric.
risibarra2010,I use that with my electric awning with my version of OldCoot's awning poles and it works good. I do not recommend using it on an electric awning without the poles as the arms may bend or the arm lock knobs may not hold. I attach the springs to the ground directly beside the poles(dogs are less likely to get tangled around the strap).

I have a power awning and I use support poles with the ratchet tiedowns and springs. It has withstood 60 mph winds last year and it did not get damaged when 22 other awnings i the park were ruined, here are some pictures of the poles. I highly recommend them!! They are gray in the photos, but I have now painted them now!!

Not to derail this thread too much, but do campgrounds ever have issues with you guys screwing those big anchors into the ground?

Do you have those poles permanently mounted? If so, how did you manage to do that. I'd be very interested in putting the same setup on my rig

They don't disturb the grounds, they screw in and leave a very small hole that you can step on and the hole disappears. Never heard of any campground complaining.

Yes they are. They were simple to install, drilled 4 hole and I was done!!
