Prodigy 3 and Tundras

Been baking this one in my head since I saw the install kit for the new Tundras. So now my Prodigy 3 sits under the tow/haul button for my 2011.

I did the same thing last year. Great spot but it was a tight fit getting existing harness to reach.

I took the plug and play harness and added 18 inches. Made by an inch. I recommend adding 24 inches now.

Smart mod. I have an older Prodigy that will fit nicely.
Thanks for sharing.

Ok- wake up the kids in the back of the room😝

Parts needed:

12 pack cold beer

Bezel - either use one already in vehicle or purchase new one (58820-0c090) about $34 on Internet. Note: this mod is for units that have tow package & tow haul button.

8-32 machine screws 1/2 inch length qty two

Nylon spacers- 3/8 by 1/4 & 3/8 by 3/16

Black paint

48" 14 ga wire white

24" 14 ga wire red

24" 12 ga in blue & black

10 red butt connectors

24" 3/8 wire loom

Electrical tape

Tools:

Small flat tip screwdriver

Flat file

9/64 drill bit

Instructions:

Open a beer- drink beer

Use screwdriver to pop out shift release cover and put screwdriver in slot and shift into "d" ( make sure vehicle is off and brake is on)

Gently pry out one of the dummy blank above the pocket then use finger to reach around and pop out other blank. Do the same for tow/haul switch and once switch comes out disconnect the connector. DO NOT try to pry out tow/haul switch- it WILL break.

Use finger in either outside switch holes and reach up to find small plastic hook to gently pull down and bezel should pop out.

Drink beer

Use screwdriver to pop off black pocket from tabs.

Use flat file in between the two lower pocket hooks until the "shelf" is gone and you can see the reinforcement for the bottom plastic hook that attaches part to console bezel. I do not recommend using dremel as it will be inconsistent and uneven. Be sure to file the "shelf" where the two lower hooks are until they are flat and even.

Drink beer

File down shaded area on the sides until they are flat. This will give you clean access to drill holes on both sides to insert screws to mount controller. Align controller in bezel and mark for screw holes. Drill small pilot hole before using 9/64 bit.

Spray the nylon spacers black if needed. Mount controller in bezel using the longer screws and nylon spacers.

Drink beer

Take brake controller harness and cut nylon sheath to access wires. Pick two wires and cut them. Move down or up 1 1/2 inches and cut the other two wires. Don't cut ground wire yet- keeps from mixing up wires. Butt connect in 24" of each color of wire. Put all four wires in 3/8 wire loom making sure ground wire is outside of loom. Wrap loom in electrical tape. Cut ground wire and add length of wire.

Drink beer.

Remove screw grommet/clip located by accelerator pedal for console trim. Feed black connector of brake controller harness underneath console trim towards hole where controller will mount and give a little extra slack to plug in controller. Route other end of harness over steering shaft and e-brake assembly and down to factory connector. Connect to factory harness and mount ground connector to a bolt somewhere.

Plug in controller and make sure unit powers up. Put tow/haul button back in bezel and connect wires. Snap controller bezel back into console and snap in two dummy plugs. Reinsert screw grommet by accelerator pedal. Set screen color to pink and contrast to high to best match dash color. Move shifter back into park and replace shift lockout cap. Start truck and test 7-pin connector and tow/haul button.

Drink remainder of 12 pack of beer cause you are DONE!
