Rear camera install question

Hi, so I installed a rear camera on my new e-pro 19fds, it was pre-wired for a Furrion but I chose to install a Rohent it is basically a direct fit but way cheaper, it has great reviews and when I tested it as suggested in the instructions it works amazingly but when I plug the camera in it dosnt work it says " no signal" the camera dosnt plug directly into the pre-wired cord it requires a small adapter cord and this may be where my problem is? But I am curious if maybe the cord is not hooked up to the DC panel inside? Has anyone done this install before?

Ok, so I think I have the answer to my question, apparently the camera wire is hooked to the lights and you need to have the tow vehicle plugged in and lights on to work. While I was testing the unit I never had the truck hooked up as I wasn't going anywhere, kind of funny but frustrating to as the pre-wire could simply have been hooked to the DC panel. Anyway it's late now so I'll test again tomorrow or Friday night.

You are correct in your finding. The trailer pig tail should be connected to tow vehicle and the lights turned on. The camera receives it's power from your trailer running lights. Happy camping!

Please post a review here once you've had a chance to use it on the road. The price looks very good...

I bought an aftermarket camera and I am not prewired. I will tap into the running lights, so I will have to turn those on to use the camera

Once I test it in the truck in the driveway I'll post back regarding its clarity and view then again when on the road but that likely won't be until May Ling weekend, FYI, when I was testing it with the adapter cord supplied the camera can split screen and you can add a second camera if you wanted but I honestly don't see a need for that, I do like the large screen though , My Ram has the 12" screen and it's great so this 5" is a nice addition, the older I am the worse my close up reading is, lol

I thought this model has a 7" screen?

We had the same problem when we tried ours. Didn't even think about the lights needing to be turned on, but that makes perfect sense! Gonna try again and see if that solves our issue. Thank you for posting your experience!

Clarity

Ok, I said I'd report back and realized I didn't, we are not quite at camping weather yet , ( well at least not for this glamper ) so I haven't been on the road with the camera but it works very well and the clarity is awesome and as mentioned above in order for it to work the tow vehicle headlights must be on and NOT in the auto position of the switch it won't work there so kind of funny because I've owned my 2019 ram since new and had never taken the switch off the auto position, lol the only two things I didn't like about the camera is I had to request the window mount suction cup bracket as it comes with a mount you would screw down, honestly who in there right mind is going to screw something down on a brand new dash? Lastly the bracket for the camera can not adjust to where you want it when it is attached with the four screws provided its either too high or too low so if you use only two of the screws you can aim it where it needs to be. All in all two thumbs up.

Close up?

Well like I said I don't like the ugly bracket for the screen so the suction cup works well, but I'm curious on your camera mounting if you could provide a close up please maybe a side shot where the screws mount on the adapter bracket.

Here is a closer view, monitor can be unplugged and removed when not towing, you can get more details at Amazon product page

Philsr5, I meant close up of the camera, it uses four screws to hold the adapter bracket to the OEM one on the trailer and those work fine but the four screws with Allen head sockets that are used to mount the camera to the bracket limit its up and down pan unless you remove two of the screws ( one from each side ) which then unrestricts its movement so I wondered if you had that same issue.

This is not a problem with the DoHonest RV backup camera, there is only one screw on each side, so you can tilt it right up and down, look at the 5th photo on the page product on Amazon.

Camera

I see, the bracket is slightly different using only two screws, I didn't realize we were not talking about the same brand, anyway the Rohent works well once I got past the mount hurdle, easy!

I ripped that stupid proprietary Furrion mount off when I installed my Haloview. Their bracket hole pattern perfectly matches the holes left with you take the Furrion mount off.
