Replacing Jenson Omni-Directional Antenna with "home" Antenna?

I have the crappy Jenson Omni-Directional antenna on my new travel trailer and I am debating about trying a home antenna ran though the cable tv inlet jack, seeking some thoughts on the matter. Also, wondering if anyone has tried this and had much success.

BACKGROUND: I currently have an antennas direct DB4 antenna at home in the attic and it works great. I am able to pull in towers that are 50 miles away. I was thinking about buying the updated DB4 (Antennas Direct DB4-e) and building a modified version of the PVC Satellite dish mount to attach it to. I am thinking that the mount plus antenna would have the same or increased range as the jack or the sensor iv while being less than 1/2 the cost. In addition, it would also prevent me from having to drill additional holes in the roof, preventing one less possible area of water intrusion.
