RV Skylight Insulator....you have options!

Was just looking around online and saw that those pillow style skylight insulators are like $30-40.

I got measuring. 14x22 for the skylight, 16x25 for a door window.

So I ordered a door window shade and velcro'd it on. Boom. No more hot arse bathroom and it only cost me $16 on Amazon. Easy to remove if I want.

I often wonder if those that close off the skylight with something (especially black) realize the temperatures which then build up in the then sandwiched skylight area? Can't be good for that thin plastic.

While something inside could be removed, I've always liked the cover the outside with window tinting or some folks paint the "bubble" with a roof coating.

The back side of that panel is reflective. If the skylight allows UV and IR in, it will allow it back out.

I did check on the temp of it throughout the day. The black side you see in the photo was not even warm. Meaning it was reflecting all of the heat back out.

Wondered about the heat too. I put white vinyl tape over my skylight. And put a 1 inch piece of insulation up in the skylight and taped it in place with the same tape.
Not inexpensive tape but I had it already. 3M Venture White Vinyl Tape - 460V It holds up to moisture pretty well. I will find out how well it holds up to the elements. Couple of months so far.

Read previously someone painted their skylight white frost.
