Securing murphy bed mattress

Anyone change how the mattress is held to the murphy frame?

Mine has that "V" setup and the buckles are right under me with no way to adjust them out of the way.

So looking for suggestions

Adjust the buckles out of the way of what? Not really understanding your problem.

I remove the straps from the snap ring on the end of the bed before sleeping remove the straps to the top. But then we make the bed and use the straps to hold the blankets and pillows on the mattress as we put the mattress away

Second!

I do the same disconnect from base of bed and flip them up to one side. Make the bed and set to go put the straps back on. Easy!

Are you saying that the buckles are "under you" while you're sleeping? If that's the case, unsnap the buckles and flip the long straps off to each side off the mattress and tuck the short "y" strap under the mattress at the foot. The holding straps are only for when the bed is flipped up, they are not needed/used for when the bed is down for sleeping.

I'm trying to avoid the hassle of doing the buckles daily. I guess I'll just get a bigger topper

Well, if you put a topper over the straps so you can leave them in place and yet not feel them when sleeping, then that topper will not be secured when you lift the bed up and it will be free to move/slide down into the void, ...

Ya gotta unhook the strap man! I unhook at foot of bed and toss strap down the crack. you have to get on the bed (at least mine) to make the bed anyway, that's when I pull the strap back up and over. I just added a topper, so the strap keeps everything in place. I used to close the bed when not in transit without using strap, and began having trouble lowering bed, mattress was rubbing against wall. Now I use the strap everytime I fold up.

One thing I finally did is get rid of the stupid sham pillows that trailer came with. I used to religiously make bed, put shams back, strap up, and fold. Then at night reverse order, till I asked myself, "what the hell am I doing messing with these sham pillows all the time?" and took them out of camper. Maybe they are just to look pretty giving demo of trailer at dealerships.

***I've never messed with the buckles. Just unhook from eyelet at foot of bed.

Murphy bed straps

I solved that problem permanently. Traded that sucker with Murphy bed for one with a real bed. Hated that thing.

When your camper box is only 17.5', the bed takes a lot of space during day, so for a smaller trailer, it is nice to get bed out of way.

I'm just trying to maintain my lazy ways [emoji1]

Right now I put the factory cover over the straps then put my bedding over that. The buckles really only get in the way when I don't stay put at night. In the morning I shove the pillows into the window and tuck the sheet and blanket in at the foot and put the bed away.

You can't be lazier than me. Strap only takes a few seconds to pull back over the whole shebang. Now I definitely need it since I have a topper on bed.

What I did was get rid of the straps. Then I mounted new strap hold downs 1foot up from the bottom of the bed platform side to side. I strap mattress and topper down to the platform. When I get up in the morning I throw pillows in side cabinet and lift bed up. Super fast and easy.

We just let the long straps drop behind the mattress and the v-strap dangles on the floor. If you don't want to fish the long straps out from behind the mattress, secure them on the headboard somehow.

We use the straps on top to hold the bedding and pillows in place. I'm unclear on the difficulty?

I think he may have thought you have to undo the buckles. And pulling strap back up is easy, it's attached to platform at head of mattress, so you don't have to look for it, just reach in the crack and grab it.

I gather that the OP buckles the straps under the sheets and sleeps on top of them, not on top of the bedding, to be used only while the bed is closed.

As for the cover that came with the trailer, it's stuff in a closet somewhere.

I actually like the cover, the pocket corners at foot of bed help it stay on, and not a lot of excess material to try to tuck under.

On my Murphy Bed to me the least difficult part is dealing with the straps. It's making the bed that's not a lot of fun.

I can sort of stand part way down the side of the bed and I use a long reach "grabber" to help deal with the sheets and cover. Also helps retrieve the straps for fastening before folding up.

I fold mine up every morning. Good exercise.
