Shore/Generator manual transfer switch.

I want to mount my generator on the back of my 2018 Wildwood trailer bumper and hard wire it into my WENCO power center with a manual rotary DTDP switch. Anybody done this successfully?

Many threads on the forum caution against mounting heavy items on the bumper. They are not designed to hold the extra weight of something like a generator. Options would include reinforcement struts attached to the chassis to help secure the bumper and replacement of the OEM bumper with a heavier gauge aftermarket one.

I realize your question was electrical in nature but first things first.

The soltion to mounting a generator to rear bumpers requires proper mounting.

I installed Safety Struts and use a GennyGo platform. My 100 pound + Champion Inverter ( with full tank of gas) has had several 3,000 mile trips on freeways and countless miles on Forest Service roads without any issues at all. Bumper is OE. No bending, twisting, cracking of welds, or any other horror stories frequently posted.

Most of those I've read involved bolt on 2" hitch mounts and Harbor Freight type platforms that twist the dickens out of 4" bumpers.

Thanks. Great advice. My bumper is solid. More interested in the manual transfer switch wiring.

I did consider it once. I just move regular power cord to whatever power source available. If not at a hookup site I plug into generator or to an outside outlet on my trailer I installed with power from my 2kw inverter.

With my solar charging the only time I need to plug into generator is on heavily overcast days or when A/C is necessary. Keeps it simple.

I put on a Genny-Go for my 3500 watt inverter generator and made a short power cable to connect it to the 5er. I leave the power cable connected to the generator and tucked under the cover. The generator is secured with heavy duty wire ties and protected by the brothers Smith & Wesson.
