Soft Touch Ceiling-2002 Presidential 5th Wheel

Hello! My daughter bought a 2002 5th wheel that I am "renovating" for her. The ceiling is what I believe I have seen labeled as "soft touch" (padded vinyl type ceiling). Given the fact that the camper is 20 years old, the ceiling is discolored and dingy looking. We have tried cleaning it, but it still has a dingy/aged look to it. We are painting the walls white. My question is, can the soft touch ceiling be painted? My guess is no, but I wanted to see if anyone here had tried it, or other suggestions?

Hi there. Rustoleum and Dupli-color make a vinyl paint for automotive use. That may be a solution?

Hi and Welcome to FRF.
Just to clarify, that 5th wheel is not a Forest River product. The Presidential 5th Wheels were made by Holiday Rambler.
Posting pics are often more helpful than descriptions. Some closeups of the ceiling may be helpful.

Yes, I realized that after I posted it, so I edited the post. For some reason I had Forest River on my mind...my apologies! I will take some pictures when I go out to work on it later today. Thanks

Don't know how well it would take paint. You might try cleaning it with TSP to get some of the grime off of it.

Almost anything can be painted. If I were you I’d go to a real paint store, not one of the big box ones and have them advise you. I would bet they’ll suggest you use some sort of gripper primer for your first coat so your finish coat has something to stick to and regular paint for the finish coat. I would go with a scrubbable paint for the finish coat just in case it needs to be cleaned in the future.

A few years ago--well, more than a few--I got some spray paint that was labelled for use on plastics, primerless on metal and wood, from Walmart. It's worked well for me on several instances. IIRC it's this one.

You probably need to clean that ceiling with a degreaser and use a plastic paint like the Krylon. You're going to need lots of ventilation as you paint.

Welcome to the forum!

Go to Sherwin Williams. They have paint for everything.
